Today is the 250th anniversary of Jane Austen's birth, and I couldn't let it pass without saying how much her writing affected me, and still does. I know a lot of people don't 'get' why some of us revere her, but she packs so much humanity into her writing that she made me into a character writer - a poor echo of her triumphant, colossal talent - and a character READER. Write a great character and you will have me hooked on your book. So... thinking of Jane Austen today, in a world that sometimes feels like it has gone mad.

Hegseth said that warriors in the US army would be unfit for polite society. Looks like he's intent on making them just that by getting rid of all of the ones who ARE fit for polite society. He wants men who will murder on command. #unfitforpolitesociety #murderoncommand
I'll never forget Hegseth's comment that combat vets won't be fit for polite society, a condemnation of a whole population. What a foul way to envision veterans who should be helped to reintegrate w/ society. Will they never love, marry, raise kids? Are they doomed to be mere killing machines?
