Whoever is the next Secretary of State is going to have some big shoes to fill.
So where did this idea come from that he thinks the terms are related? Someone on social media must have said, "It's almost like he thinks…," and then someone else said, "omg I bet you're right," and someone said, "Oh yeah definitely" and now it's an article of faith, with zero evidence.
But he has to amp up all rhetoric, so mental institutions become "insane asylums" just like he loves to reference Hannibal Lector. He's even said multiple times something to the effect of "mental institutions, I like to call them insane asylums."
Why then does he say it? He's had a bee in his bonnet since he came down that escalator about countries "sending us" people (which they don't) and claims they're releasing prisoners in order to stick us with their riffraff (they aren't).
Trump has virtually no filter. If he thought for a second that "asylum seekers" meant people who came from insane asylums, don't you think he would have said so by now? But he hasn't. Find a clip of him saying it.
You might respond, absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. But that fails when the hypothesis should have produced evidence. If you claim Bigfoot was walking in your garden but there are no footprints, that disproves your theory.
Not only no evidence, but excellent evidence to the contrary. Because he's never mentioned asylum seekers when talking about countries sending people here from jails, prisons, mental institutions, and insane asylums.

Screenshotting so as not to quote dunk. This is completely wrong. Trump is referring to the rise in prices, not the war. The word ‘incursion’ would not make sense; ‘excursion’ is the correct word.
Also, there is no evidence that Trump thinks asylum seekers and insane asylums are connected.
Surely they can just spray some extra sulfuric acid at various obstacles to dissolve them
