Dare we say, "Edgar Miller and the Handmade Home" is the PERFECT Xmas (or any occasion) gift!
Gorgeous pictures of the stunning interior!
One of our favorite Rebori-Miller collaborations, too! The bas relief over the front door depicting the Evangelists are Miller's designs, and so are some of the smaller rose and arch stained glass windows on the front facade. The mosaic art is of unknown authorship but could be Miller-influenced.
Millerβs wallpapers were featured in numerous interior design magazines and advertisements, including those featuring Doris Day and Ida Lupini, during the 1940s - '50s, and decorated the walls of thousands of homes across the United States! See what's in store for your own home decorating.
Miller designed the charming Tower Court Collection in an assortment of unique themes and graphic styles. Each wallpaper design, originally painted by the artist, was then traced and cut into stencils (or screens) for each layer of color, bringing the image to life in a variety of custom colorways.
NEW to our shop, Edgar Miller Wallpaper Poster-sized Prints. Weβre thrilled to announce six original prints for sale, designed by Edgar Miller and printed by the wallpaper company Bassett & Vollum. www.edgarmiller.org/wallpaper-shop
Newly rediscovered from the archives! While there are few details regarding this original Edgar Miller painting, this piece depicting children at play is believed to be from sometime early in his career, likely in the early to mid-1920s. The only copy of the photo has been recolorized by EML.
Today from the Edgar Miller Legacy archive, an untitled lithogrpahic print of a landscape, c. 1920. While he is best known for his decorative design, Miller could not resist trying new mediums, and made many copper plate engravings in a variety of styles, especially during his teens and twenties.
Edgar Miller painted thousands of individual panes of stained glass throughout his life, none more extravagant and experimental than those he made for the Handmade Homes in the 1920s and β30s. View more of his work in the Handmade Home book and virtual tour available on our website: edgarmiller.org.
Thanks to his delicate and delightful designs, Edgar Miller had many clients who also worked in various creative trades, as seen in these examples of printmaking work he designed for a fashion and costume designer named Gisela Bennati in the 1920s, from the EML archive.
Edgar Miller always saw the world in vibrant color. Images from a sketch he did as a teenager, possibly during his travels around the Pacific and Oceania with his family. His stunning exploration of color, patterns, and texture evident from a young age.
Join us next week for a virtual presentation followed by a Q&A with Executive Director Zac Bleicher on the latest edition of Edgar Miller and the Handmade Home - Wed. 9/10, 7-8pm.
