UAB is recruiting neuroscience faculty at two different levels - come join our vibrant neuroscience community!
Now available on the OSF as part of a growing collection of preregistration resources, the new EEG & ERP Methods template guides researchers through every stage of ERP study planning. In our Q&A, two of its creators share how the template can help researchers at all stages:
main goal for this year: find a new job! π
looking for a role with fun & complex technical challenges & within a great community. my main expertise is in signal processing/EEG/MEG, but topic-wise I am quite flexible.
science/industry both great! starting mid-year. nschawor.github.io/cv
Happy to share that our #Python implementation of GEDAI (Generalized Eigenvalue De-Artifacting Instrument) is now available π π» π§

Yeah! Let's get this year started off right.
A new theoretical model for everyone's favorite sensitive and specific neural marker.
So why is it a marker of goals if it is called the Reward Positivity? 1/4
Thank you for the explanation. I also see that a couple of my preprints have finally been indexed. The publication dates are still missing from the records, but at least things are moving again.
Grading and googling hallucinated citations, as one does nowadays, and now that LLMs have been around for a while, I've discovered new horrors: hallucinated journals are now appearing in Google Scholar with dozens of citations bc so many people are citing these fake things
Have other people had this issue with PsyArXiv and Google Scholar? None of my recent PsyArXiv papers are showing up in Google Scholar, including ones posted over two months ago. @improvingpsych.org @briannosek.bsky.social

If everyone followed your advice and crammed all those numbers into the text, results sections would be unreadable. I strongly doubt you write your own papers like that. That is what tables, shared data, and code are for.

π¨ New preprint: Invisible neural frequency tagging (RIFT) for the underfunded researcher:
π www.biorxiv.org/cgi/content/...
RIFT uses high-frequency flicker to probe attention in M/EEG with minimal stimulus visibility and little distraction. Until now, it required a costly high-speed projector.
After a couple of years in the making, we are thrilled to launch the new home for #EEGManyLabs: eegmanylabs.org
How do you share annotations of your (i)EEG data? Super excited to share our new manuscript describing the HED library schema with 396 standardized, machine readable, @bidsstandard.bsky.social compatible, #EEG or #iEEG annotations, based on the SCORE standard: www.nature.com/articles/s41...

π¨ New preprint alert!
Excited to share our latest work on alpha/beta activity, eye movements, and memory.
Across 4 experiments combining scalp EEG/iEEG with eye tracking, we show that alpha/beta activity directly reflects eye movements, and only indirectly relates to memory.
π Highlights (1/7):
Happy to have contributed together with @lgrabot.bsky.social to discuss #traveling_waves and cognition!
We're excited to share the new logo for COST Action AFFECT-EVO! How many species can you find in the phylogenetic tree?
Jasper speaking in a microphone below a large screen displaying an introductory slide to the symposium "Early Insights into the replicability of influential EEG experiments" in the Aula Maximum of the Jagiellonian University
Enjoying #IOP2025 and it was my honour to chair this symposium and present our progress with the #EEGManyLabs replications. Learned a lot from the talks by Martin Constant, Peter Clayson, Aleya Marzuki and Katharina Paul
Do you have a similar initiative for professors with rescinded offers or denied visas?
π Exciting news! Our Stage 1 Registered Report on the Coherence of Gamma-Band EEG Activity as a Basis for Associative Threat Learning has been accepted at Nature Human Behaviour! You can read the uploaded protocol here: doi.org/10.6084/m9.f...
Stay tuned for Stage 2! π§
746 proposals for a total of 3M (about 13 will be funded).
If orgs spent 4000 in personnel time preparing their proposals on average, then this mechanism actually reduced funding for open science.
Open science is extremely underfunded.
Once upon a time I couldn't replicate a published finding...and decided to do something about it.
Little did I know how long it would take to finish π...but here we are. I'm super proud of this paper and grateful to the other 68 (!) authors. β€οΈ
