...the yellowing is an oxidation process that distrupt bromine from the flame retardant in the ABS, and the process is started by... UV light. So I don't think exposing the plastic to MORE UV light is, in long term, good for conservation :(
It's my opinion that retrobright does damage. Sometimes the yellow coming back is worse. Also, the plastic become brittle. it's something related to the plastic structure, the bromine (yellow) coming out the ABS by oxidation, and it's substitution with oxygen in the plastic. Also... (cont)
There are studies by some academic sources. Itβs not a recommended procedure for museum conservation. Yvonne Shashoua published some works about this matter
