I haven‘t been very active on #bsky (or anywhere else) the last few days.

As a German whose family history was shaped by not one but TWO dictatorships, I simply cannot believe what is happening in the US and other western democracies.

Hope and compassion to us all.

Yes, absolutely something I can get behind as well.

I far prefer to have small libs with limited scope that I can understand and reuse in different projects, instead of having a full blown framework that wants to do everything, but in it’s own way

They are excellent for getting started quickly!

My thoughts exactly!

I keep reading about Reddit as a valid platform, though it was completely off my radar for now. All I remember is that redditors are a bit of a tough crowd.

Do you have any recommendations to make the most of Reddit?

„Serverless“ being a bit of a misnomer here. There‘s always going to be a server somewhere, it‘s just that you don’t manage it.

And in the case of some deployment providers you have free hosting of static pages, which limit you to client-side JS. This is what I meant, sorry for the confusion

I agree. Which is why I’m surprised how heavily they push server-side execution in their docs.

AstroJS is similar, quoting performance issues because unnecessary JS isn’t being shipped. Which, true, but when I do prototyping, serverless is how I go

Thanks, I feared as much!

#buildinpublic

Just to prove how innocent and inexperienced I am at social media, forgetting to tag my post and all. Embarrassing, really.

I‘m using Sveltekit for my current side project, which assumes server-side JS by convention.

Not sure how much longer server-side JS is going to be around for.
If I‘m a quick&dirty Indie Dev, I‘d always go serverless.
For more mature SW, I‘d use a dedicated backend stack.

Thoughts?

When I told people „I now do social media“, the first thing they ask me is my Instagram handle.

I‘m a social media virgin, so I have to ask: is Instagram a serious platform? I‘m interested in programming and business stuff and always thought IG was mostly for selfies and food porn…

Agree. Sometimes I wish I had fewer ideas. It would make it so much easier to focus on the ones I am working on! :)

Though to be fair, this is just how a pipeline works.

The more work you have to put into something, the less likely it is to get done.

I don‘t know circles, but choosing which group to interact with sounds like a good starting point.

I like the Reddit system in general, except… it‘s Reddit. I think the Karma system does more harm than good

Love it! I‘ve been meaning to build the same thing :)

Most #indiehacking projects generate no revenue. Same for most #buildinpublic projects.

How do you motivate yourself again and again despite it all?

Are you chasing a dream?
Is this a hobby to you?
Or is your business working good enough?

@myfollower.bsky.social is an interesting project that aims to demonstrate how broken „follow/follow back“ is on #bluesky.

Followers are just how this platform works - but must they be public or is this just a vanity thing?
What if your follower count was only visible to yourself?

Ye, pretty much what went through my head. Had to stick to the character limit though :D

Oha. Ich dachte bis eben, dass das ja easy möglich sein muss. Braucht aber doch ein paar Programmierkenntnisse… hoffentlich ein Feature, das bald kommt!

Next up, I want to see if #mistral can compete with this.

Still disappointed in ChatGPT, their answers aren’t quite as helpful in the space I am in

In case you weren’t aware: Claude The LLM cannot generate images. It is, however, actually quite strong at generating text-based models and can even visualize them in Mermaid.

If you, like me, like to create visual models to structure your thinking, this might be worth checking out.

Is this the age of Social Media renaissance?

Twitter/X is toxic.
TikTok is a PsyOp.
Facebook is old.
Instagram may be the only popular platform left.

Could this be the time for micro-communities with strong moderation?

Lot‘s of people here working on cool software to make #bluesky even more fun.
I‘ve seen schedulers, analytics and even rudimentary sentiment analysis.

What are the coolest tools for bluesky that you can’t go without?

This sounds like it could be exactly what I'm looking for. Thanks for the suggestion!

Most builders I know aren‘t very fond of marketing, myself included.

So I was happy to learn that if you use the proper #buildinpublic tag, your posts will show up on many more people‘s feeds and get likes and maybe followers.

Crazy stuff.

Now go back to building awesome things please.

I genuinely love it! I love the idea and I love the hackiness of it. It‘s got all the hallmarks of a classic to come.

Thanks, I‘ll check it out!

Nicely done! Want to share what you‘re analyzing? The trending topics? Or are you going into specific posts from key accounts?

13.01.2025 20:08 👍 3 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

Same as learning the building stuff: just start naively.

Then figure out what you‘re doing wrong and debug until you have something that works.

Not that it‘s working particularly well for me so far, but then I only just started. I‘m basically a script kiddie of marketing at the moment.
