In fact, Matisse began the project in 1945. Matisse’s illustrations were comprised of a series of head and bust images of his then current models. Head of a Female Model, 1945-46 Head of a Female Model, 1945-46 This image and its partner facing are two of the twelve supplementary lithographs for a special deluxe edition of Poésies Antillaises.
