Cosplay Lore- Reflections of an Elder Cosplayer

I’m old. But seriously I’ve been cosplaying for over 15 years and I’ve had the privilege (and at time, horror) of seeing how this community has grown and changed. As a history buff I love lore. So why not share in the lore I’ve observed in my time in this community since the mid-2000’s!

Wigs were rare I got wigs through throwing the dice on EBay, through Cosplay.com or at local wig stores. Few commercially produced wigs were made with anime hairstyles in mind so we were usually working with thin wigs made for very natural looking styles. Colors were also limited, with choices being natural or like… full clown.

The importance of hall shots The difference between phone camera quality and camera quality used to be enormous. So at cons, since we didn’t all carry cameras on us, scouring con forums and Facebook pages for photos posted by others at the con used to be a major way of getting photos of your cosplays outside of organized shoots.
