And this extends beyond academics. Tons of people facing a reckoning and figuring out how to reposition or even reimagine their work. On good days I feel really optimistic and ambitious. On bad days, it's more than a wee bit scary.

There are lots of ways to use AI to write poorly. It doesn't necessarily mean the technology is bad. It's about how it's used and what it's used for.
It's akin to driving a car, in a way. Lotta shitty drivers out there. Not the car's fault, ya know?
Your experience is very different than mine. This probably comes down to how people are using it to write and/or what they're writing about. Lots of people misunderstand AI's role in writing. Writing is also a small fraction of what AI can do.
One of those things that's sad but also totally understandable. It wasn't working.
It's such a hilarious lack of self-awareness to announce this and expect people to have a reaction that isn't "don't let the door hit your ass on the way out, shithead"

Not this. Dismissing AI tools as "bumbling intern" level just isn't accurate. They're having a massive impact on workflows across virtually every industry that involves typing on a keyboard. Saying otherwise indicates either a misunderstanding or simple denial. It's also being unkind to interns lol.
