Well, the other place is down for the count, not that it matters to me since I don't use it much.

It was only a matter of time before it happened. ๐
Day 7 of covid. I'm past the initial infection although I still have a cough and no sense of smell.
Day 5 of covid. Lost my sense of smell but my taste is unaffected. Feeling much better overall.
Day 4 of covid. Still feels like a really bad cold although the cough is slightly worse.
Welp, after nearly 5 years without catching it, covid has found us. Hopefully it won't be too bad.
Well that was quite the ice storm. I'd say that was easily a half inch of ice we got. Didn't lose power thankfully (very few outages in Cedar Rapids from this ice storm).
Looks like it's going to be "ice ice baby" here tomorrow. Not looking forward to it. At least the ice that does accret won't last long.
Just finished watching the Twisters movie on YouTube (I bought the movie) and I have to say, very good movie. I'd say it's on par with Twister.
It's looking like late next week our first arctic blast of the season will arrive based on the ensembles.
Hopefully the NWS offices migrate to here sometime in the near future, although it might be awhile still.
We're in the time of year where I look at all the long range models for major winter storms for Iowa.
I noticed that on the other platform (X) I've been getting post notification of prominent posts (almost all of them being from the far right) of people I do not follow.
I smell a bad observation.
Yeah. During the winter I visit Americanwx a lot, especially when major winter storms are forecast for my area. As for wxtwitter, I feel that wxsky will replace wxtwitter (exodus from X still ongoing and likely will still be going on for awhile) although some likely will still remain on X.
All these weather forums that I mentioned (except Americanwx) were formed before social media became mainstream.
One more weather forum that might be still around (it's resurrection, not the original since the original was sadly lost when the server hard drive crashed in the fall of 2016) is Talkweather. It was one of the first weather forums that I signed up for.
As for the storm2k forums (which I found in late summer 04), they are still around and going on very strong.
Another weather forum that's been gone for over a decade was the Wright Weather forums (I think that's what they were called?). I don't remember when the forums shut down but I think it was in the late 2000s. Not as much memories from that forum compared to Easternuswx.
Speaking of Americanwx forums, they have been around double the amount of time Easternuswx was around (Easternuswx only lasted a little over 7 years while Americanwx was formed 14 years ago).
*little.
It's almost been 17 years since Cedar Rapids last major ice storm (December 10-11, 2007 where Cedar Rapids got a littl over a half inch of ice). We are waaay overdue for another one. I hope that overdue time doesn't come anytime soon.
Oh yes. I was a very frequent poster on Easternuswx and would post very often during major winter storms. December 1, 2007 (siggy ice storm), December 10-11, 2007 (major ice storm) and December 22, 2007 (blizzard) come to mind.
Yep! I vividly remember all of the mods and other admins (except DeFuzz since he passed away in early 07) got banned by Vortmax (the admin in question) out of spite.
14 years ago the old Easternuswx forums went defunct because the main admin threw a hissy fit over an issue that I do not remember what it was about. Americanwx forums replaced Easternuswx forums and are still going strong to this day. I do miss the old posts on Easternuswx though.
Uh oh.
I saw it when I was 10 when it first premiered on TV.
Well I just found out that some major companies are resuming advertising on X. That is......odd, to say the least. The question is, why?
It means that the servers are under strain due to the massive influx of new users from the other platform.
Once Bluesky adds post notifications (might be awhile) then we're all set.
