I guess I am gonna vaguepost about it but yeah I do think that shitting on your users and punching down is like, a bad idea, and eventually that will catch up to you. Shock and surprise that the users will get mad at you for it. Astounded

the biggest time sink in software development is not typing syntax into a text editor
Over the past year, every single time one of the apps or services I use suddenly became less reliable and more buggy, I never have to look far for the "Claude is amazing and now writes most of my code" post for the devs involved.
look, no one could have foreseen that the bosses were going to capture all the value of generative AI. we had to ruin the software industry to find out. the solution is a new idea where workers collectively join together to demand fair treatment (needs a name) steve-yegge.medium.com/the-ai-vampi...

THE VHS VERSION OF THE PEOPLE'S JOKER NOW AVAILABLE ON NIFTY USB THUMB DRIVES?! WAAHHHHHH?! (l!nK b3l0w)
The fediverse has its own quirks but at least people generally aren't trying to dunk on each other. Just a much better vibe overall.
That's great and answers my initial question, thanks! I do wish the T committed to full electrification with catenary but this is better than nothing.
I asked a question in a thread and now have multiple people debating a version of me they have made up in their head. Bluesky is my favorite centralized social media platform!
But they're still gonna need a fleet of diesels because they won't invest in actual electrification. I don't want diesel either, just trying to understand the battery calculus. If it makes more economic sense then that's great and I'm glad.
I agree! I'm not when this turned into a debate?
I swear their website said they were going to order BEMUs but now it's battery locomotives??? Leave it to the MBTA to pick the worst of both worlds.
Oh fuck they're not even ordering EMUs! Whoever made the final call on this should be fired immediately.
Not my industry but the argument I've heard is that fewer kinds of equipment makes maintenance and operation simpler.
dual mode makes sense on a network that is partially electrified so the fleet can be uniform. I'm just having trouble understanding the T's logic for battery trains.
Why not dual-mode diesel/electric like the Amtrak Airo? The MBTA's plan is pretty frustrating as a Worcester/Framingham line rider.
