Be it out here, amidst His sands—” auntie Xylottee pointed her finger down on the floor “—or up there, amongst His stars.” She pointed up towards the ceiling, lingering dust caught in the His eternal sunlight, dancing overhead like the many stars of the cosmos that beckoned in the deepest nights. Xylottee’s smile was still gone from her face. Her right hand still held onto the pendant. “All I can do is pray that He will guide you as He guided me and your mother,” she concluded. She let go of the pendant and looked away. Mallik offered a weak smile. “He does, auntie.”

finished ch.4 last night, but upon reread i wasnt quite feeling it and i likely will be scrapping and rewriting it entirely (many thanks to @thesenesx.bsky.social for her help and feedback!)

in the meantime, have one of the better scenes from the scrapped chapter 🙂‍↕️
