Newsdayβs coverage of our rally in Huntington yesterday that drew 1000 Long Islanders to come protest federal funding cuts and threats to Medicaid @engagelongisland.bsky.social @showupli.bsky.social @maddow.msnbc.com
Long Island showed up to protest the devastating federal funding cuts and express concerns about the looming deep cuts to Medicaid that would impact hundreds of thousands of Long Islanders including over 30% of all children! @engagelongisland.bsky.social @showupli.bsky.social @maddow.msnbc.com
These rallies continue to feel so hopeful and empowering. Weβve chanted it together many times over the years, but this really IS what democracy looks like and what it feels like.
Keep Showing Up. πͺπΌπΊπΈπ

Over 1000 people from red districts on Long Island showed up for our May Day Rally lining all 4 corners of a busy intersection at rush hour with lots of passing cars honking in support! @maddow.msnbc.com
#MayDay is almost here! Spread the word. Tell your neighbors, friends and family to join us!

#HandsOffMedicaid!!
100+ gathered at Rep. LaLotaβs office to express concerns about Medicaid cuts. We then all signed & delivered letters calling LaLota out for claiming he is only advocating for βreformsβ which is effectively a more palatable description of the $880 billion in cuts he voted for .
Over 300 people lined Main Street in Huntington today for a βNo Kings Day- Stop the Cutsβ rally! Itβs easy to feel somewhat hopeless at times these days, but events like this always feel empowering! We must never forget - The Power is With the People!! πΊπΈππͺπΌ
Was proud to hold the letter βOβ this morning with friends from @engagelongisland.bsky.social , doing our part to remind everyone that none of this is normal and our democracy is in peril. Lots of cars and trucks honked in agreement! πΊπΈ
Hi @maddow.msnbc.com! Please show the country that thousands of Long Islanders spoke out last Saturday despite the pouring rain, with 8 separate rallies across our two red counties!
Empowering having 2,300 people brave the rain on LI & gather in protest! I spoke of the administrationβs assault on science & healthcare, others spoke of threats to education, jobs, & our very democracy. We wonβt take this sitting down; we wonβt let democracy die on our watch!
#HandsOffMedicaid
My guest essay in Newsday discusses the devastating impact Medicaid cuts would have on all children and families on Long Island. Nearly half of children in the United States receive their healthcare through Medicaid, including about 150,000 children right here on Long Island.
βEmpowering Women in Politics & Governmentβ brunch sponsored by Dem committees across Suffolk County. Former County Legislator Jane Devine was honored and spoke of the urgency of these unprecedented times and the need to speak up in any way we can against the assault on our democracy.
Was honored to moderate a discussion for @engagelongisland.bsky.social! We watched 'Separated' which chronicles family separation, heard from Angel Reyes who shared his personal story and Bryan Perez of #Carecen-NY who told us about the great work that organization does for the immigrant community.
Very powerful night watching the documentary Separated about Trumpβs harmful separation policy followed by a panel discussing the current immigrant experience on LI.
Thank you #Carecen-NY for all the work you do, @drevemk.bsky.social for moderating, and to all who joined and donated to CARECEN!π
Traveled to Albany with the colleagues from NYS AAP to advocate for kids in the budget! We advocated for Early Intervention, primary care support & early literacy programs. We applaud funding to help sustain working families including universal school meals & the child tax credit! #PutKidsFirst!
This week I joined my American Academy of Pediatrics colleagues from around the country in DC to urge elected officials to reject any cuts to Medicaid!! Children are the largest group of Medicaid beneficiaries including 44% of all NY children. Any cuts to Medicaid will harm children's health.
Something not often discussed is Russiaβs kidnapping of at least 20,000 Ukrainian children who were forcibly taken into Russia during the war without consent of parents or guardians. Today America sided with the kidnappers .

Texas officials have abdicated responsibility from protecting their most vulnerable constituents, babies and children. They have a responsibility to protect the public health of the people they serve and their inaction is putting childrenβs lives at risk.

At the moment all your typically mild mannered neighborhood pediatricians are filled with the kind of heartbroken rage that makes your eyes well up
When any child dies itβs a heartbreaking tragedy. When that death was entirely preventable there needs to be accountability. The vaccine hesitancy that led to this childβs death lies squarely on RFK Jr and the misinformation he spreads
apnews.com/article/meas...
The CDC link to the Vaccine Information Sheets which pediatricians provide to parents when their child gets vaccinated, has been taken down
My commentary in the Daily News today describes how pediatricians feel about the prospect of RFK Jr. being confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services, and the danger he poses to childrenβs health. www.nydailynews.com/2025/01/29/p...
RFK ACTION CENTER!! Please use the link below to email and call your Senator, and to submit a formal comment to the Senate Finance Committee that decides on sending RFK to the full Senate for confirmation www.safecommunitiescoalition.org/rfkaction
There will be serious consequences if he is confirmed
Sorry
Itβs potentially disastrous www.npr.org/sections/sho...
So looking into it more, the Senate Committee on Health, Education, Labor and Pensions will also be holding hearings for RFK. The hearings donβt start until January 3rd when the new Congress starts, so the members may change
βWhen you think of RFK Jr., think of rows of tiny coffins.β

Do we really want a liar and conspiracy theorist as our next head of HHS? Great 30-minute video. Please repost far and wide.
