From govt website: Definition of the Offence The elements of the offence are summarised in Attorney General's Reference No 3 of 2003[2004] EWCA Crim 868. The offence is committed when: • a public officer acting as such; • wilfully neglects to perform his duty and/or wilfully misconducts himself; • to such a degree as to amount to an abuse of the public's trust in the office holder; • without reasonable excuse or justification.
Now that Misconduct in Public Office is actually a thing, might we at last see some justice in the form of prosecutions?

Thank you, thank you, thank you! 🙏
Wait till you hear some UK unis have (Israeli) technology for student absence reporting that tracks students’ whereabouts through the app. I’d refuse to download it if I were them.

The first copy of my monograph 'Demon Possession and Sexual Violence in Post-Great Recession American Horror Cinema' arrived and it's beautiful! I'm so proud. Thank you @uniwalespress.bsky.social
Established at our 48th Congress in 1986, World Writers’ Day honours the courage to write and the solidarity that protects it.
As writers face imprisonment, exile, censorship, and violence for speaking the truth, we stand with them and defend freedom of expression.
This is a good understanding of the situation. If the hype is to be believed (hmmm), then AI would need to show it can synthesise new knowledge, rather than just model what is. But because people believe it CAN do this already, the work of creating true new knowledge comes under threat/is devalued.

This - after a public consultation that came down c95% against corporate copyright theft - is a hearty move towards this government’s spineless purchased representatives needing to be hoofed in the crotch by us all, in a big queue until they get the message.
A headline from @resprofessional reads “Redundancies at research-intensive universities double in two years”. Poster has crossed out “research-intensive” so headline is now “Redundancies at universities double in two years”.
There, I’ve fixed it for you, @resprofnews.bsky.social (pls don’t quibble figures as it’s the sentiment I’m going for). Because post-92 and FE colleges also exist despite past gov’s animosity and current gov’s indifference.

Her Mum is the cleaner at that bank
Is the Government’s Ipoproposal that richer child gets permanent status at age 10 while in primary school & working class classmate not until they are 22?
Rent is due in Minnesota. Essentially every rent fund still needs donations to keep people in the houses that offer them protection from ICE.
There’s a very long list of places to donate on this website. Please help spread the word!
I think I’m going to start using this. It’s a mark, similar to copyright, designating your work as human-made. https://www.artistsu.org/human-intelligence
At the start of the year I took 4 days to concentrate deeply and solely on a new piece of writing. It was invigorating and exhausting: I slept peacefully. I am a pack-horse designed for this “academic labor”, and my life would be small and fretful without intentional and meaningful academic “flow”.
Adapt The Castle Of Otranto, you cowards
Good to see journalists covering the links between University of Buckingham’s Centre for Heterodox Science and race science networks. It ought to be pretty shocking to see a university openly affiliate with pseudoscience peddlers such as Aporia
This is one of the most heart-breaking & important articles I have ever read - from someone whose voices are so rarely heard, a teenaged girl.
If you want to understand online misogyny in all its devastating impact, please read this shattering piece.

Nigal Farage is setting out his migration plans, which would involve retrospectively removing permanent UK residency for hundreds of thousands of non-European people, arguing this the only way to defeat a "really worrying, dangerous form of extreme right ethno-nationalism".

“I feel seen.”
