Oops.. I forgot about my account for a bit π but I'm back with some exciting news. My embroidered specimens will be on display in my upcoming show, The Threads Between, opening July 5th at the Poetic Tiger Gallery in Boise, ID. All pieces will be available online (with worldwide shipping)
Hand embroidered nest πͺΉ πͺ‘β¨οΈπ¦ (yes, even the sticks are handmade)
I think this is one of the prettiest things I've made

The artist's hand holds a fabric sculpture of tree bark, painted with mossy details. A colorful tray of Carandache pastels sit in the background.
Sometimes I sculpt things with fabric πͺ΅
Haha it's stitchcraft! π§ββοΈπͺ‘β¨οΈπ₯ (The mushroom has an inner armature that gives it support π)

A camera display shows a photo of an almost finished 3-dimensional embroidery of a Fly Agaric mushroom and moss. The embroidered subject sits out of focus in the background.

Thank you! π
Embroidery thread, needles, and scissors sit beside an embroidery hoop with light purple fabric. A 3-dimensional snail and a sparkling slime trail are embroidered on the fabric.

Thanks! I usually try to make them life-sized but this one is scaled larger to fit the frame (4 inch moth in a 5 inch frame)
It's giving midcentury living room vibes

Omg yessss. If a bride wants to commission a froggy dress, I'd be game!
Absolutely. I'm working on some soft dewy moss to go with it as well. It'll be a perfectly cozy place for a nap π΄
Thank you so much!
Yup! It's made with thread, watercolors, and lutradur, a mixed media (fabric/paper) sheet
I feel like a goblin haha.. I just want a whole forest floor of embroidered leaves now π

π planning a spring pollinator collection of embroidered bees, butterflies, moths, and maybe a hummingbird or 2. π¦ππΉπ΅πΈπΌπΏ
I'm actually writing a full pattern for it! πΈπ
It was a little fiddly, and it's definitely not perfect. I did a digital mockup for the pattern so I could be sure the two sides would align and then it was mostly just about coloring within the lines π (it's a little harder to make sure the padded side does not overflow it's boundaries)
That's pretty much it! This is not a true double-sided embroidery like the traditional Chinese suzhou technique. That would not be possible with this type of padded stumpwork unfortunately. Instead the body was embroidered separately before I attached it to the underside view.
My froggy-on-a-window embroidery is almost done!
haha now I can't unsee it.. the little πΏ garnish π

Working on another double-sided frog embroidery. Just washed the tummy and now I'm letting it air dry on this sunny, 80 degree afternoon. πΈπ
