Tonight Labour MPs voted to accept the Justice Secretaryβs argument that a judge's ability to jail you for three years is like βscraping your kneeβ.
I very much doubt the public will agree
Hell no

Trump a proper wrong 'un too.
I always thought Woody Allen was a wrong 'un hiding in plain sight.

In the long term. You know. After you're dead.
It was a privilege to be in the chamber earlier to witness this incredibly powerful and effective speech from Charlotte Nichols.
Post from Lucy Powell MP following the Labour defeat in the Gorton and Denton by-election: The result in Gorton and Denton is very disappointing. We will reflect, act & continue to learn lessons in the coming days & weeks. Today, I want to thank Angeliki Stogia for her energy & positivity over the campaign, the brilliant Labour staff & thousands of volunteers who worked their socks off.
Do you think Labour have learnt any lessons from the Gorton & Denton loss?
Looks like they're doubling down on all the things that lost it for them in the first place to me.
Just passed 808 followers. Love and thanks to all. β€οΈ π
We're no further forward on the cost of living crisis, but there have been many other authoritarian acts tabled.

George is absolutely right. Here's the article he wrote earlier this year, in case it doesn't carry with the repost. We have to support and vote for UK politicians who resist corporate capture, and we have a three year stretch to communicate that message to everyone. We all need to get involved. ππ»
Privatisation fails it prioritises profit over service delivery, services deteriorate, workers are exploited, CEOs are paid bonuses to intensify exploitation.
Public services have that name for a reason - they are meant to be run as a service to the public. It's what we pay taxes for.
Public services are built up & developed over many years of investment.
Ours have been stolen.

Nationalise our water
This is the world we live in.
Profits of $104 billion are given a negative slant because they are slightly less obscene than the previous year.
Good on ya!
An illegal war by USA & Israel, propped up by missions from UK air bases.
Supported by Nigel Farage.
Over 1000 civilians dead & now the threat of global economic fallout. Trump's disaster makes us all less safe, less secure - and we will remember those who backed it.
Definitely.
Bit like the Boris/buffoon persona was used to mask the fact that Johnson was actually a thoroughly corrupt and dodgy piece of work.
Curse of Private Equity
US evidence shows:
When private equity incentives collide with clinical care, patientsβespecially those who are sicker, poorer, or harder to treatβare more likely to be killed or harmed.
Yet UK handing more of the NHS to PE, enabling it to make profits.
Has anyone tried looking up Trump's arse?
Farage misses out on Trump meeting as their relationship cools. British populist politician aimed to reinforce his view about the UK's Chagos Islands deal in conversation with US president Reform leader Nigel Farage's failure to secure an audience with the US president underscores a weakening of ties between the two populist leaders Β© Ben Birchall/PA
Farage had given the impression that he expected to see Trump, telling an event hosted in opposition to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer's proposed Chagos Islands agreement with Mauritius that the president "has almost understood the deal... but I'll be dining at Mar-a-Lago tomorrow night and I will reinforce the message". But, rather than receiving a formal invite to meet Trump, Farage was in fact invited to Mar-a-Lago by a member of the club, according to multiple people briefed on the matter.
βFarageβs relationship with Trump has cooledβ
Not really.
Farageβs relationship with Trump is a one-sided humiliation-fest.
Farage remains desperately needy and willing to sell us out to Trump. But Trump doesnβt see him as important right now.

If Starmer was genuinely concerned about the cost of living, he could start with energy bills.
The government could invest in solar for all - this would also bring much greater national energy security.

Time to invest in energy security.
Time to invest in the people.

UK has only two days of gas stored, Iran war threatens supplies.
Maximum capacity is 12 days.
Mainland Europe has reserves of several weeksβ worth of gas.
UK storage capacity shrank after privatisation.
The Rough storage facility closed in in 2017. British Gas wanted subsidies.
Iβm Keir for you: The PM is visiting a community center in London to discuss the impact. Expect a pooled interview with broadcasters mid-morning. Thereβs one quote on rising bills in his words trailed overnight that warrants chasing up: βI will always be guided by what is best for the British public. And no matter the headwinds, supporting working people and their families with the cost of living is always top of my mind.β
I mean, this just isn't true, is it? If Starmer was focused on the cost of living crisis he wouldn't insist on no customs union and no single market? Nor would he embrace the negative economic consequences of his anti-migrant policy?
Like everything else about Starmer, this is empty rhetoric.
