Its not an either/or. You'll still need human scientists to do actual lab work to test the ideas AIs generate. No scientist could take an AI's word for it that a cure works, but everyone would be thrilled if the % of treatments that make it through clinical trials rose above 10%.

How bad is it?

I was on a run at the national mall today. There was a protest at the Lincoln Memorial- Iranian expats calling for the fall of the regime. I'd seen two protests like it before the war- much fewer people this time. I felt bad for them. We let them down.

The fact that he says 'hopefully' gives the game away. The fact that he feels the need for help from other countries though, is quite unnerving.

The moment the bubble pops, all this stuff will be accounted for all at once and it will be biblical. (the oil crisis is going to force this)

I feel like Iran's best security assurance is deterrence. They are demonstrating their ability and willingness to blow up everyone and themselves by closing the strait.

Bluster, or is something big coming? (probably a bit of both)

what i want to see out of future democratic party leaders is a recognition that federal spending is legitimately good, that we should do more of it, and that doing so will require collective contribution that many, many people are going to scream absolute bloody murder about

Don't worry, they're just waiting for infrastructure week.

I find that song comforting, in a way. Someone talking to us from another scary and chaotic moment in history.

"We didn't start the fire, It was always burning since the world's been turning. We didn't start the fire. No, we didn't light it, but we tried to fight it."

I don't like TLJ (and for non-chud reasons) but also after almost a decade its kinda boring rehashing it.

Also, I do wonder how long the gulf states can survive like this before collapsing.

Odd Lots podcast had a good episode where they said pretty much this.

The fertilizer shortage too... we could literally have famines from this (with no USAID to help). The admin's decisions all compounding on each other to bring suffering.

That's the biggest potential for further downside in oil supply. (next biggest is the US taking out Iran's oil exports). The Houthis have been quiet... too quiet.

All the indicators are bad, but the future is unwritten and you can't surrender. That's just history. That's just life. You get up each day and struggle. The struggle is how you know you're alive and you're alive b/c others refused to just give up. That's the way of things.

We absolutely shouldn't trust the admin to be truthful with us. They won't report bad news if they can get away with it.

They're gonna fucking send the marines to Kharg island. They could literally just shut down Iranian exports with the Navy, any time they wanted. But no, they need the strong manly men to do it.

Pete's problem, as before, is black voters. The race crosstabs in some of these polls are just brutal for him- his support is white as mayo and that won't cut it in a Dem primary.

13.03.2026 20:49 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

it feels like a lot of Dems are suddenly trying "we can run a robust social safety net by only taxing rich people and corporations" messaging and that is

a) not a great message, in that we should all contribute

b) not actually true, math-wise
