No one is saying AI pulled the trigger. They’re saying the system may have amplified a mind already coming apart. The guardrails didn’t catch it.

The courts haven’t ruled, and liability isn’t settled.

The family filed a wrongful-death lawsuit naming OpenAI and Microsoft. The claim is that the man had been spiraling into paranoia, and ChatGPT became part of that spiral—it listened, but never pushed back.

According to the complaint, he believed his mother was poisoning and spying on him.
