Dungeon meshi is of course post Pokémon but I don’t feel like you’d work the phrase out backwards and then use it for a joke expecting your audience of potentially non-Pokémon fans to understand it. I’ve read it in other manga too but I knew for sure it was in dungeon meshi due to the food thing lol

I’ve read this phrase used in manga totally unrelated to Pokémon so I do think it’s a real saying. I think the Pokémon existing has made localisers confident in just translating it directly. When I get home I’ll look for a translation note at the back of a dungeon meshi volume, iirc it’s used there

I completed a pretty small number of videogames this year, a couple I played a lot but are still in progress (hades II and death stranding II) so I can't comment yet. Probably my most played game this year was synth riders. But these are the manageably-sized mostly narrative games I finished
