Dave Grohl:The Storyteller. I was touched by the stories w/his family. Taking last minute plane rides from NZ to LA just to attend a daddy daughter dance for 3 hours & back on a plane & be back in NZ just in time to get on stage. Thats dedication. Something you don’t see w/ a “rockstar” lifestyle.
Romney: A Reckoning by McKay Coppins is a fascinating look into how the mind of Mitt Romney and other politicians work. I really enjoyed this read and look into someone I have admired for years.
At his sentencing he was given the opportunity to speak (a rarity) “Now I must die for telling the truth, my time is now. Your time will come” Helmuth did all he could to stand up to antisemitism and the Nazi regime even in the face of death.
He made & distributed leaflets at great personal risk & was eventually caught. Tortured for months,“tried”, found guilty & executed. He was told that Hitler himself refused to stay the execution. During his trial he goaded the judges and taunted them.
Been reading this book for a little while, Helmuth Hübener was the youngest person to be executed by the Nazi’s “People’s Court”. He saw through the propaganda early at a young age. When his church, family, & friends embraced antisemitism, he fought against it.
“A Private Family Matter” by Victor Rivas Rivers (Mask of Zorro) writes about his childhood of abuse, when he was kidnapped by his father, & how he was saved by his community of neighbors, teachers, & coaches that got him out of the gang life & onto the Miami Dolphins & eventually acting.
I read this years ago but I just listened the audio book & it is amazing! I got to meet Trevor & shocked him w/my Xhosa from my days living in South Africa. He has had a very interesting life! Born to a black mother & white father his existence is evidence of a crime under apartheid South Africa.
A great biography about an interesting LDS Scholar who is the father of “Mormon Studies”
This book was a very cool read. The personal assistant to Nelson Mandela during and beyond his presidency. Rumors it was being made into a movie but I haven’t seen an update in a while.
Got some sweet Dr. Pepper Swag today! I’m going to have a crazy cool manicure!
