Just to be clear, this data was collected in 2010-2011, so it's probably wildly different now

Those are the ones that the US government itself is like "this is nonsense" :P

The map comes from a 2013 article called "Patterns in the distribution of digital games via BitTorrent", by Anders Drachen & Robert W.D. Veitch

Limited usability, but I applaud them opening the article by saying most piracy reporting is nonsense and trying to measure it by themselves.

The U.S. Government Accountability Office report is actually really good: www.gao.gov/products/gao...

If you ever wanna research on this or just call bullshit on "piracy stole 500 billions!" headlines, it's an amazing source to quote.

After hours of reading about piracy rates, the two best things I found were:

- A 2010 U.S. Government Accountability Office report to congress calling most reports on piracy bullshit / lobby tools

- A world map of showing the % per Internet connection of BitTorrent game pirates lol (boa Portugal!)

No company would put out a financial report going "we are losing BILLIONS every year to piracy!"... they would downplay it for their shareholders and then get lobby groups like ESA to inflate them to push for stricter laws.

The guy spoke with Nintendo's anti-piracy office, he probably got it from them or from ESA, but it's wild to not mention where...

It all depends on where you live. In Brazil modchips were everywhere in the 2000s, stores sold PS2s pre-installed with them and game magazines even had ads on which is the best modchip

What an insane statement

There were many bypass methods, the USB dongle was an early one.

In my search for actual info on PS2 piracy rates I saw several academic articles mentioning the US had an overall 46,4% piracy rate...

I got for the source and it's a random 1-page article in a 2003 Canadian magazine that doesn't even give a source... 💀

Does anyone know serious studies trying to estimate PS2 piracy rates?

Stuff like NES is tough due to bootleg consoles, but anyone playing God of War 1 back then needed an actual PS2. Comparing PS2 flagship game/console ownership rate with non-pirataleable consoles should be at least interesting...

As far as I know there's no way to pirate PS5 games, for example.

Those are extremely hard to track, which is why it makes sense to focus instead on what we can confirm - official PS2 console & game sales, compared to other consoles.

Been following Hannah and Joseph / Whalenought Studios since 2014, when they kickstarted Serpent in the Staglands.

Cool people, doing cool & extremely distinct RPGs. After issues with Serpent & Mechajammer, it's nice that this seems to be their breakout hit - the one where it all clicks together.

Saw on the train today, Fukushima prefecture is doing a tourism campaign in partnership with Square-Enix, promoting Final Fantasy-like landscapes & touristic spots.

Cute stuff, I only found the 1st one in good quality.

David Gaider Reflects On 15 Years Of Dragon Age 2 - A Fan-Favorite Story That Was The Team's First Draft David Gaider talks us through a story that had to be written so quickly that his team had no time to doubt themselves.

It's here! This has been an utter joy to work on for Dragon Age 2's 15th anniversary. Huge thank you to David Gaider for taking me through how he and all of the writers managed to get this fan favourite story finished, with no time for redrafts www.thegamer.com/dragon-age-2...

Spent the last month or so working on this new (and very important!) area for ABYSS X ZERO!

Haven't worked on an area like this since the Downtown from UNSIGHTED, so it's been very nostalgic to create these urban/city assets.

A lot of WIP elements here still!
