AI cameras are everywhere — and people are paying the price for their mistakes Flock Safety's license plate readers are used by police in thousands of communities. When the cameras make mistakes, the consequences can be severe.

“In a dozen instances, misreads by Flock's automated license plate readers, or a lack of verification by officers, resulted in people who hadn't committed crimes being stopped at gunpoint, sent to jail, or mauled by a police dog, among other outcomes.”

Mamdani Chooses His Words Carefully After Alleged Terror Attack

One day the NYT's editors will read these stories again and be ashamed of themselves. Mamdani called the attack "heinous," "criminal," "reprehensible," "terrorism," and "the antithesis of who we are." The insinuation that he's conflicted about this is disgraceful. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/n...

Screenshot of four different jobs from the NY Mag feature about what people make in NYC:
"Home Health Aide
$23,000
I've been a home health aide for ten years. My main patient last year was in Brooklyn. I spent most of my time taking care of her. I worked two days a week, and I was being paid for 13 hours of work each day - my agency, Loyal Home Care, budgets eight hours of sleep and three hours for mealtimes into our wages. But I was basically working 24 hours a day. She was active, and I was worried she would fall, so I would watch her all day and night. This is a pretty common experience for health aides. The agency can deny our overtime, but you can't deny a patient. When they say, "Oh, I need a drink of water; I need to use the bathroom," how could you possibly say "no" to them?
Bronx Day-Care Worker
$31,000
$16,600 from day-care profits
$14,400 from trainings and consulting
Last year, I lost a lot of kids. I live in the Bronx, and a bunch of families in my neighborhood lost their child-care vouchers. We're talking about people who make as much as I do; most of the moms I work with are home health aides. They can't afford full-time child care. If I have 16 kids, I can pay myself for 40 hours of work. But last year, I didn't, and obviously I'm still doing the same amount of work. I've been running the day care out of my home for more than seven years. It's a profession I entered out of necessity and have stayed in out of passion. I pay for everything - food, cleaning supplies, toys - and we have to meet the same requirements as a large company in terms of paying for liability insurance, which can feel pointless in this industry. I mean, if something happens to one of my children, I lose my license. End of story."

Iran is finalizing plans to impose “security duties” in the Persian Gulf on oil tankers and commercial ships that belong to countries allied with the US, an Iranian source with knowledge of the leadership’s strategy told CNN.

The source insisted that the Strait of Hormuz is “closed” even if US President Donald Trump says it is open.

“We hold the screw of the global oil price in our hands and for a long time the US will have to wait for our actions to control the price. Energy prices have become unstable and we will continue to fight until Trump declares defeat,” the source said.

I wish narratives of anti-colonialism focused more on the many ways South Asians refused to fight imperial wars. Punjabis fomented mutiny of Indian troops in Singapore in 1915. A Baloch regiment refused to sail to Mesopotamia in 1915. Muslim soldiers refused to fight near Islam’s holy sites in 1916

The Limited Power of Iran’s President Over the years, the already-constrained power of the country’s elected leader has been steadily eroded further

Why now is the time to be loudly anti-war We don't need the clarity of hindsight to know war in Iran—or anywhere—will end in physical, moral and financial ruin.

New — My case for why it’s not enough to call this “Trump’s war” when violence abroad implicates us all, and how we don’t need hindsight to know that unequivocally opposing this war will be the correct (and only morally defensible) choice:

Truly bizarre. “nation state” is a W European (white) idea, supposed to predate and also eclipse empire but then western nation states extracted wealth from most of the world, invited new nations into the liberal order, saddled them with debt, now blame immigration for the loss of western homeland??

It’s really low by the US and Israel to do that. You might as well bombard an elementary school… oh wait, you did that already

IRGC warns of retaliation during US-Israel attacks on energy infrastructure
A spokesperson for the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) says it will retaliate if US-Israeli attacks on Iran’s energy infrastructure don’t let up.

In a statement carried by Iranian state media, the unnamed spokesperson accused the US and Israel of targeting civilians and fuel and energy facilities and claimed the IRGC has “refrained from any similar action”.

Gulf countries should tell the US and Israel to stop, the spokesperson added, or else “similar actions will be taken in the region.”

“If you can tolerate oil at more than $200 per barrel, continue this game.”
