Special congratulations to our Dundas Medal winners, Sheffield Teaching Hospital's Specialist Palliative Care Team!
This award is given to an individual or team who make exemplary efforts to improve the provision of palliative care for patients in hospital.
Thank you for all your hard work.
The accusation that the Lords are โobstructing democracyโ by supporters of the assisted dying bill is a ridiculous one that shows up the flaws in this process that have been there from the very beginning โ which have repeatedly been covered up by heated rhetoric (1/?)
After some consideration, the synthesis I have settled on is Starmer is bad and cynical for shamelessly pulling strings to block a rival, Burnham is bad and cynical for being ready to risk a Reform mayor in Greater Manchester for his own ambition, and it is time at last for chaos with Ed Miliband.

The Health and Social Care Committeeโs evaluation of palliative care in England was published yesterday.
Itโs hugely important, not least in the context of the assisted dying bill.
Itโs had almost no media coverage.

I read it in 1999 and I still think about it often
Science teachers! I hope most of you will be familiar with this already, but if not, this is absolutely worth a few minutes of your time, especially if you teach Biology:
Read up and down this thread: trans people have been treated abominably by the state and are now in an impossible position to
Really useful paper. Traditional dosing strategies (200mg IM loading, followed by 800-1200mg/day) don't reflect its half-life. Typical loading doses of around 600mg may not need any follow-on regular dose (or a very-much-less than 800mg/day dose if used)
We are pleased to announce that Dr Catriona Mayland has been granted a highly competitive @nihr.bsky.social Advanced Fellowship award to study 'unheard voices' in #EndOfLife care
Her research comes at a pivotal moment amid ongoing national conversations about assisted dying.
In the interest of balance, everyone who read the Observer article about The Salt Path should probably read this. www.raynorwinn.co.uk
One thing is certain: whatever happens, I will post โplay stupid games, win stupid prizesโ, because a lot of people have played stupid games, and someone is going to win a stupid prize.

Lacewing larvae from the green gardener, game changer
At the point youโre taking four years why not use that time to do it via a citizens assembly or a judicial inquiry, instead of basically having all the disadvantages of rushed legislation and all the disadvantages of a slow, considered process?
Iโm always happy to oblige everyone and get stuck in

Freddie Mercury didn't go into the studio and nail the vocals for "The Show Must Go On" in one take while dying of AIDS for you to despair and give up now. Take the time you need, but then get up and get back out there.
The show must go on.
granted I am not your mother, but I feel like my timeline every morning is now a lot of you getting angry about the Today Programme, and may I suggest to you - merely suggest! - simply not listening to the Today Programme

The European mind cannot understand this
This was partially what I was getting at in my discussion with @doctoroxford.bsky.social yesterday. Yes to a better funding settlement but has to come with a hard look at the hospice model in my view
Of course I hate that this is the world we live in with these calculations to make.
I agree, but sometimes that comes at a cost to reducing access. Basic E.g can we provide the excellent care to one person, or can we provide good care to two people and free space in the system for someone else to get out of A&E onto amu and therefore an ambulance to offload their patient.
Iโm just not a big fan of the outsourcing model. I work in an โnhs hospiceโ, youโll be familiar with a similar model in Oxford. Weโre efficient, we see more patients than the hospices around us. Think the responsibilities and integration with the local system that come with the funding will be key.
One thing Iโm wondering, are we talking about nationalising the hospices? I wouldnโt be against it! But is that what hospices really definitely want?
Checkโฆpeopleโsโฆ.phones? Maybe give me some IT that can talk to other peopleโs IT before we fund the NHS WhatsApp police
Iโd say itโs only a greenhouse but Iโm really quite fond of our greenhouse so I feel the pain. But yes, build and plant again!
