Black bird with white wing markings high about desert cliffs
It took 800 miles of driving over two days, but we finally found California condors in Vermilion Cliffs National Monument this afternoon. They were about five miles off, soaring high above the cliffs, so I don't have photographs beyond proof-of-sighting, but I'm still high on the sighting.
a beautiful light lined city street in chicago with a pink and orange sunset
chicago sunset, go outside and look west!
Otherworldly sunset through the Costco cart return door
Awesome skies in Clarksburg! Storm moving through NW and N suburbs.
I am glad I'm not the only person who has this take. (I live in sweats or jeans now instead of my super sharp clothes from my old office job because caregiver-students do not need to wear designer anything.)
Did you know that Viagra comes in grape flavor?
I learned that when I put $10k on my credit card on a Friday night to buy grape Viagra. But upside, it meant that I could take my newborn son, who had just had open heart surgery, home from the hospital.
Here's hoping it can help other families.
Juno needs help and it's extremely urgent -
$5 from enough people can fix this looming eviction / car repo!

worth remembering, David Lynch directed βfix your hearts or dieβ specifically at transphobes. it wasnβt a generic βno mean people allowedβ statement, it was said by his Twin Peaks character in defense of a trans woman he cared for and deeply respected.
I mean, I agree but none of these motherfuckers crowing about the trolley problem have EVER read the fucking paper and have the most facile, the most asinine grasp of the problem and its implications and theyβve driven interpretation of it.
I spent all night on radar as a favor, I think I'm gto finally chance a nap. Hopefully things don't pick up in the interim.
"How's the forecast?"
"It'll be an interesting day."
"At least it's not our problem."
"Oh, this is our forecast."
"...what?"
"Shai-hulud, we are unworthy" I whisper to my cat as he lies in my lap, wrapping himself in his blanket
A writer has contacted me looking for a geologist's insight into various Bay area rock climbing sites. Not my expertise area but maybe yours? DM me.
Gotta last at least three more hours and then I can shut my laptop and go to bed.
A kid got arrested and booked but we have friends now going to the jail to get him out on bond. I will make sure to follow up to see if thereβs any legal help we can give him, record expungement etc especially if heβs 18. Ridiculous, arrested for saying βfuck CoreCivicβ in the lobby outside of hall.
I weave on a loom. Sometimes I build weird little dioramas with clay monsters hiding in them.
A temperature map of the Midwest this afternoon. Readings range from 41 in Chicago to 77 in Peoria.
A map of the Storm Prediction Center's severe weather outlook for Tuesday
A map of the Storm Prediction Center's tornado probabilities for Tuesday
That's quite the front over Illinois and Indiana this afternoon.
This boundary will serve as the focus for rotating storms into the evening hours.
A moderate (4/5) risk for severe weather is in place across the region, driven by the tornado threat.
Storm Prediction Center severe hail outlook for Tuesday, March 10, 2026. Much of Oklahoma is in a 15β29% risk area for severe hail, with a corridor of higher risk extending from the western Oklahoma Panhandle through Woodward and Elk City toward Oklahoma City and Tulsa. A smaller hatched area across southwest and south-central Oklahoma near Altus and Lawton indicates the potential for significant hail, including stones up to baseball size. Text highlights increased risk of golf-ball-size hail across parts of northern and central Oklahoma.
It'll also put knots on your noggin faster'n you can rub 'em! Greater risk from southwest into central OK. #okwx #okmesonet
Tornado Sheltering Guidelines: Seek the best available area immediately when a Tornado Warning is issued. Your chance of surviving a tornado is exceelent if you follow these guidelines. Worst Options: mobile homes, vehicles, underneath a highway overpass. Bad Options: Large open rooms like gymnasiums, manufactured housing. Good Options: Interior room of a well-constructed home or building, basement. Best Options: Above or below ground Tornado Storm Shelter (NSSA/ICC 500 compliant, recommended by FEMA) or a specifically-designed FEMA Safe Room.
With one Tornado Watch already issued today and more likely to come, NOW is the time to think about what to do if a Tornado Warning is issued for your area. What makes a good shelter? Take the time to figure out your options. weather.gov/safety/tornado

I'm headed to Paris to see what the 2024 games left behind β but I need your help, Torched readers!
Who can you connect me with? Which stories are most important to you? And perhaps most critically: where must I eat to fuel the step counter for my fact-finding missions each day?
(they would have tonight but they work at 4 am)
Took a nap and woke up to find out I've been volunteered to watch radar for someone's family tonight (tbf they spotted for mine a few years ago) and I guess I'm making a big pot of coffee soon
My car told me to check the backseat when I parked it just now and I worried I made a serial killer listen to kpop and Weird Al for 40 minutes.

today is the day
there's a lot of terrible things in the world but friends of ours have a two-year old whose favorite stuffed toy is a deer we gave her, and before she goes to sleep every night she says "Goodnight, dear Deer."
I am lying on the floor with a fan turned to a setting I'd describe as 'trip to Oz' and I am just barely inside my tolerance for feeling warm. I feel bad for my gynecologist. (Is the perimenopause treatment not working or is something else crashing out? Who knows!)
