I love that I'm yet to encounter a bigot on Bluesky, but am worried that we've just created an echo chamber here and will end up with an unrealistic sense of reality. Does anyone else share this concern?

That doesn't count - Trump doesn't care about financial benefit to the US, he wants to know what's in it for him. Perhaps our PM will offer to rename Australia after him - that might *almost* be enough to stroke his massive ego.
Apparently statesβ rights stop the moment women board a plane with autonomy in their carry-on.
Will his next step be to have Americans run backyard furnaces to match Chinese production?

Thank you, Jessie. Whatever the outcome, you've reminded the major parties that no electorate is "safe" and that we all need to be looked after.
If you can get past the paywall, this is worth a read. It's about how the narrative Aboud education in Australia has become about "choice" over equity, and about the consequences of both sides of politics pushing that angle.

Wonderful sentiment. Apologies for not making it to your last public meet-up. I am still keen to talk about equity in education as being a priority over school choice, so will make a point of finding you at a future event.
Not too long at all π
Thank you for your response. I'll see if I can make it to the Farmers' Market this weekend. If not, I'll leave a message via the contact page.
2/2 I would love some clarity on what you mean by "choice", and whether you will be a voice for change when it comes to our terribly inefficient & inequitable funding system. I believe we need more independents with an environmental focus, but I also believe that a robust education system is vital
1/2 Hi Jessie, I met some of your lovely volunteers a few weeks back, and we chatted about education - they indicated that you were all about equity and local public schools in education. I read your website today, & was disappointed to see that your education emphasis was on "choice", not equity.
It should, but it won't.
Kirribilli should be sold - maintaining it should not be a taxpayer burden. If a person wants to be PM, they need to accept the conditions of employment, including residing in the nation's capital.

I was shocked to read that we spent $550,000 on "Welcome to Country" ceremonies in just two years. That works out to almost 1Β’ for every Australian per year, or to put that into perspective we spent almost as much in two years as we did in six whole days to welcome King Charles III to Australia. If Peter Dutton is elected and ends this waste, I will have almost 3Β’ more at the end of his first term. I'm giddy at the prospect of such wealth

The irony of Vance telling other leaders not to support authoritarian regimes. Has he no self-awareness?
Purges based on (real or perceived) political leanings is yet another action from the fascist playbook. We're truly witnessing the end of democracy in the US.
The allies defeated Hitler in no small part cos so many brilliant people fled Europe for the US. Fascist dictatorships inevitably create brain drains. Trump has just slashed funds for medical research. The best & brightest will leave. We should invite them here. www.theguardian.com/commentisfre...

Australia needs to distance itself from any regime led by erratic, egotistical despots.
