"There is a little immaturity stuck away in the crannies of even the most judicious of us, and we should treasure it."
Yellow cargo bike with big yellow bucket in back in front of Shell gasoline sign showing gas prices fo 3.48 - 4.49.
Beat rising gas prices with this one weird trick.
FACTS:
Net Zero barely nudges your bill.
Fossilβfuel wars send it through the roof.
So when Farage and his ilk slags off renewables while fanning conflict, remember who actually hikes your costs.
How much more evidence do we need? The ultra-rich and the governments supporting them will destroy everything for the sake of profit, power and pride. Nothing is precious to them - not human life, not the living world - except their own wealth and status. Our survival depends on resisting them.

They had an election in which this was the central issue. The candidates who said they favored the scheme won by significant margins. Then Council stalled and have now called it off. And pedestrians and cyclists will pay the price.
"Catastrophic failure of leadership" is exactly what this is.
Perhaps even a βcatastrophic failure of leadershipβ?

Welcome to The War on Cars, @telegraph.co.uk.

This is truly cutting edge journalism. Nobody ever would have guessed that driving less reduces fuel usage. Can't wait for the next spate of Telegraph bile at measures designed to reduce congestion and car use!
#ShowYourStripes - Temperature change in Birmingham since 1850 These βwarming stripeβ graphics are visual representations of the change in temperature as measured in each country, region or city over the past 100+ years. Each stripe or bar represents the temperature in that country, region or city averaged over a year. The stripes typically start around the year 1900 and finish in 2024, but for many countries, regions and cities the stripes start in the 19th century or sometimes even the 18th century. The stripes turn from mainly blue to mainly red in more recent years, illustrating the rise in average temperatures in that location. For more, see: https://showyourstripes.info/faq

This is great - congratulations @katiejonesmpls.bsky.social!
I'm reminded of my sister in law who cycled to hospital on a tandem piloted by her parner to give birth.
Come to think of it, I have one of those too! Connected to another magical thingy on my roof that summons power from the sun and feeds it to my house, my stove, and my car. Doesn't have to go through the Strait of Hormuz!
A reminder that humans in cars - notably omitted from this thanks to motonormativity - kill 1.2m people every year
9 MAR 2026 telegraph BREAKING NEWS Drive less to save fuel as oil prices surge, motorists told
Telegraph in even-a-broken-clock-right-twice-day moment:
A sign reading CAFE on the edge of a gently curved bookshelf. The groove describing an arc on the floor beyond the shelf suggests that it moves.
Another view of the bookshelf / cafe door.
A window with a daily of Childrenβs books on the sill, daffodils in flower along the outer sill and a view of a body of water and hills beyond.
It is - and the experience is enhanced by the magical entrance to the cafe through an opening bookshelf.
So true β¦

FYI the 1970s oil crisis was the impetus for Copenhagen turning into a cycling city
A copy of Tom Coxβs book Everything Will Swallow You held up against the background of Cromford railway station. (The 17:48 to Derby was cancelled, so it was good to have a book to hand.)
A view of a packed room at Scarthin Books with a comfy red chair in front of overflowing bookshelves.
One of the art works produced for a 50th anniversary competition run by Scarthin Books. It features a cat waiting by the door to the shop.
Great to visit @scarthinbooks.bsky.social yesterday, enjoy some fine cake, and pick up a copy of Everything Will Swallow You by @dj-acid-reflux.bsky.social.
Interesting reflections on the role of the Charity Commission and its performance.

This is a fabulous episode. We all know that some cycle routes are safer than others. Collating that as data through user surveys is really powerful. Thanks for highlighting that work @lauralaker.bsky.social
observer.co.uk/style/featur... This is a great read, and I can't wait to read the new @grindrod.bsky.social book about suburbia from a non-hetero point of view.
Rachel Maddow called Bill a genius of exposition. Which rings true to me. Who else finds such clear, concise, vivid ways to sum up where we are and where we could and should be?
Cartoon illustration featuring a man running towards a bicycle encased in a glass box. Over the box is a giant hammer and a sign that says, "In case of rising gas prices break glass."
You know what to do
I just look at scenes like this and think about how cars ruin everything. They sterilize our cities, intimidate our people, and poison the earth.
βItβs a disgrace. Theyβre sacrificing cyclistsβ safety for the sole benefit of driversβ
Some people will say that the comparison isn't fair because cars will actually take you somewhere. Then please explain why people buy stuff like this to drive it to the office
Pretty difficult to refute a single thing in this perfect assessment of where the f**k we are, from @iandunt.bsky.social:
