Build it and they will come and they'll want more. Safe, segregated cycling and pedestrian infrastructure improves safety and experience for all road users.
87% also said they wanted enforcement on illegal footpath parking: something that endangers pedestrians, removes accessibility & sightlines.

Footpath parking is illegal and it's a blight on our towns. It reduces accessibility, visibility, and causes a serious hazard on our roads.
This video shows why it is so important that we respect the footpaths and highlights the need for more robust enforcement by local councils and the Gardaรญ.

Ok. You're right. But why stop at cyclists? Let's make pedestrians wear high-vis and helmets too! It's safer right? Actually, let's make absolutely everyone wear high-vis and helmets at all times everywhere (except people in cars obviously!) so people driving cars feel better

I spoke about the Governmentโs ridiculous proposal to criminalise cyclists who donโt wear helmets ๐ช
The fact they even proposed this betrays their complete lack of understanding of what makes our roads unsafe for cyclists & pedestrians ๐๐ @labour.ie @dublincycling.bsky.social

Many rail users in the south-east travel to and from train stations using both bike share schemes & their own bikes.
Government should be encouraging people to travel using public transport and active travel as opposed to discouraging them doing so with unscientific, knee-jerk legislation.

The Irish Cycling Campaign will be appearing before the Joint Oireachtas Committee on Transport today.
The focus today is on Road Safety.
We look forward to discussing the importance of a public health-led, safe systems approach to road danger reduction.

This is incredibly disappointing and will surely threaten the success of the Bolt e-bike and e-scooter scheme in #Wexford. This will only serve to discourage people from cycling.
Car brain government = car brain policies without any basis in research or evidence.

Yellow text on black background wear what you want ride what you want - thatโs all there is to it
There can be some gatekeeping in the cycling community so just remember that when it comes to biking there are only two rules: Wear what you want. Ride what you want and don't let anyone tell you differently

We often hear comments of the Newtown Rd not being heavily used by bicycle riders..
๐คImagine if the council created a road that began and finished at either side of a field, how many drivers would use it? ๐ค
Once it is added to & joined up, then weโll see..

Judge's comments show bias against cyclists is 'deeply embedded' in Irish society
There are five actions we can take to save lives on our roads, if we choose to implement them
www.irishexaminer.com/opinion/comm... Worked with a team in Finland re active travel, they genuinely could not fathom why people objected to cycle lanes here. "But you are making their lives better?" Ah no, you see, we hate cyclists.

An image of a sign showing free to use bike locks in a pub.
Sitting in the pub/cafรฉ in the train station in Chester on the Welsh-English border and they have free bike locks for your bike while you eat/wait/travel. A great idea to encourage multi-modal travel. Something for our friends in @seontrack.bsky.social might be interested in too! #bike #train

We echo this sentiment. The RSA badly needs reform. Not only are lives being lost but people are also suffering from life changing injuries at unacceptably high rates due to the lack of action on road safety. We also call on @darraghobrientd.bsky.social to enact the promised reform.

Shameless Garda PR blitz links road deaths to visibility issues in cases where there is noย link
Comment & Analysis: Sadly, I have to start this article by saying, for the avoidance of doubt, nothing in this article says 'don't be visible'. Lights are a legal requirement, and it'd be a good start if the Gardai enforced them, and people walking should take steps to be visible on unlit roads. I get it, nobody likes it when people are walking on unlit roads in the dark without lights and wearing dark clothing, and it's annoying when some cyclists think they are ninjas.

New Irish Study Shows Protected Bike Lanes Donโt Slow Emergency Vehicles
Another evidence-based rebuttal to one of the most common arguments levelled at bike lane projects: that they slow down or block emergency vehicle.
A fantastic report from Limerick with an unequivocal conclusion: the majority of Limerickโs protected cycle lane schemes โmaintained or enhancedโ access for emergency vehicles.
Will our planners listen though? That is the question.

This is a bizarre contribution to this article. Social media commentary does not consensus make. We are reiterating our call to open this to public consultation.
