What advice would you give to those trying to write an active travel strategy?
Ireland does seem to have a penchant for very large cars - - range rovers with chest high bumpers?
Author Martina Devlin calls it autobesity and thinks they should go the same way as cigarettes

I don't even like the tone of the CW article.
The writer is beating himself up over nothing, but also managing beating every other ebike rider up too.
It certainly isn't cheating or shameful. Everyone on an ebike is lapping those on the couch or a car seat

2nd leg on this quiet and efficient London Northwestern Railway service down to Euston. Both legs (Shrewsbury to London) for Β£16.60 booked 6 days in advance. Can't complain at that price!
I've not heard SUVs referred to as Emotional Support Vehicles before but it's a brilliant description.

This great video also reminded me of an interesting facet of motonormativity: people can lose 100 hours a year in traffic and never notice; but they have one late train and it's all "Never again - you can't rely on them"
Excellent editorial here.
An SUV causes 16 times as much road damage as a regular car.
They're way more dangerous in collisions or if one hits a pedestrian or cyclist.
They have no redeeming factors and 99%+ are just ego wagons for their drivers. Tax them to hell

I used to drop two kids at different places and get myself to work. I did it with buses and a folding bicycle. It wasn't that hard
Build it and they will cycle.
Make it safe, convenient and attractive and lots will cycle.
It is not difficult.
Motonormativity, more commonly known as #carbrain, is the subconscious bias towards car travel & accepting risks caused by cars that we treat as unacceptable in other settings/when they have other causes. We all have it.

What can do - this has become normal!!
And this isn't even illegal, because pavement parking isn't.
It's about as anti-social and dangerous as you could think though.

Campaigners lose High Court fight against cycleway.
"Five legal arguments were submitted on behalf of those opposed to it, all of which were rejected by the court."

It is quite incredible that a sustainable transport scheme, consulted on several times, can be taken to the Highest Court in the land because some residents didn't want a cycle lane in front of their house.
I am glad that common sense prevailed today.

Anyone taken the road car bit to court?

But then again, thatβs not hard.
The strength of language on show from UK papers that might often be more sympathetic to Trump goes to show how strong the pro-Ukraine consensus is in the UK. There's no debate over here, hawkishness towards Russia is the only game in town.
