Thrilled to share that the work from @cristianrocharoa.bsky.social, identifying TMEM170 proteins as lipid scramblases that associate with bridge lipid transporters, is now out in @natsmb.nature.com
Unexpectedly, the scrambling pathway does not "feed" directly into the BLTP cavity...

The geislerLab in the botanical garden of the University of Fribourg (2024)
Mutations in Arabidopsis, maize or sorghum ABCBs lead to dwarfism
Plant ABCB transporters reveal a high degree of substrate specificity in comparison to their mammalian orthologs
ABCBs (represented by the worker on the left) are ancient auxin transporters, while PIN proteins (represented by the dancer on the right) came much later in evolution
In the Geislerlab, we explore how plants move auxin, a signal that guides their growth and movements. This process is provided by specific transport proteins. By studying them, we not only learn how plants grow but might also gain insights that could help improve cancer treatments.

Saving a species but at the expense of others?
Three researchers from the Department of Biology at the University of Fribourg have demonstrated that reintroducing large herbivorous mammals into regions outside their natural range is not such a good idea.

π₯ Meet the Glauser Lab! We ask how animals sense danger & protect themselves. With tiny worms (just 302 neurons, yet sharing half our genes!) we explore how brains react to heat, how experience changes responses, and how this can inspire new ways to treat human pain.
