A male mallard duck with grey and brown body, dark green head, white neck ring, and yellow bill has its wings straight up, partially obscuring his bright green head, as it lands behind a softly out of focus ridge of white snow that is artfully obscuring the bottom portion of the image.

I kinda like this shot of a Mallard drake touching down on a frozen pond behind an out of focus snow-covered ridge in the foreground.

Let’s just say that deploying rolling vacuums the size of Sherman tanks a mile under water to rip through habitats that have evolved over millions of years and that we barely understand is the definition of epic ecological disaster.

"Geinrust Farm with Two Cows by the Water's Edge," by Piet Mondrian (ca. 1905). The painting presents a composition marked by horizontal symmetry: in the upper half, a dense row of trees in shades of dark green and earth; in the lower half, these same trees are mirrored in a perfect reflection on the vibrant and luminous blue water. In the center of the bank, between the green of the treetops and the blue of the river, appear two small cows in shades of brown and white, giving a touch of life to the static landscape.

The Senate ENR committee advanced Steve Pearce’s nomination this morning.

Our response: “Pearce is Trump’s hand-picked hatchet man to liquidate the West for private profit. Every senator who voted for him showed they’re willing to let our country’s wildest places be torn up and sold for parts."

Even MAGA Republicans Hate Plans to Put a Border Wall in Big Bend Virtually no one, it seems, thinks a physical barrier in the region is a good idea. The Trump administration is rushing to build one anyway.

DHS is rapidly pushing to wall off Big Bend National Park.

Big Bend's former NPS superintendent says:

“This is the biggest incursion on the integrity of national parks since the construction of the Hetch Hetchy Reservoir in Yosemite more than a century ago.”

Surrealist painting by René Magritte entitled "L'oiseau de ciel" (The Bird in the Sky). The silhouette of a bird in full flight fills the center of the canvas. Instead of feathers, the bird's body is composed of a clear blue sky with fluffy white clouds. The background behind the bird is blue.

Went back out with my camera today and the woodcocks started displaying at the exact same time (down to the minute) but of course tonight they stayed in the grass instead of the trails so I saw one for about 30 seconds before I couldn’t see any more for the rest of the night, no time for a tripod:

When the Gestapo went to Picasso's studio to smash it up in 1944, they pointed to postcards of his famous work, Guernica (depicting a fascist atrocity), and they wanted to arrest him for "degenerate" art. They asked him, "Did you do this?" and he replied, "no you did"

A distant selfie of me standing in nearly waist deep water of the middle of the Rio Grande River, with massive canyon walls on either side and clear blue sky overhead. This is Santa Elana Canyon, where the proposed border wall would begin. That would be a travesty. Besides, these canyon walls are their own, natural border wall.

I've been to all 254 TX counties, and Big Bend is the very best of Texas. The stunning, expansive desert landscape still feels untouched. It deserves to stay that way. It breaks my heart thinking about it being needlessly ruined for a f***ing wall. Here's some photos I've taken there. 🧵4/4
