I think that sustained movements *matter* and it's a far better way to count. I also think that high global numbers sometimes matter but for US policy and government it's *US* numbers we need to see. Like today! But I also reject the idea that the Iraq War protests didn't matter. Defeatism, feh!

I came across this same claim, but without the "and it didn't work so don't bother" bit, and it seems like it's based on global participation in a single day of coordinated protest, afaict? Most bigger protests have unfolded over more than a single day!

And don't be fooled by the TB toll being at the bottom of the list. Disruption to ongoing treatment also offers TB a golden opportunity to develop more treatment resistance. 310,000/year is already horrifying, but it can get much worse for all of us.
