Congratulations! Looking forward to using it in future teaching β the previous edition was such a great resource for both students and me.

Lately, I've been reading Piketty's 2013 'Capital in the Twenty-First Century'. In hindsight, it's impressive how much Piketty got right about what could happen if nothing changed re inequality. One argument was that we would be returning to a world dominated by inherited wealth (like before 1914).

Hi! I'm new here.
I'll talk about my work at the International Centre for Missing and Exploited Children (ICMEC), an international NGO working so that every child can grow up safe from exploitation, sexual abuse, or risk of going missing.
Looking forward to connecting π
Maybe is not ironically...

My friend Ahilleas (Please Expand Podcast) chatted with Dominic Sandbrook (from @theresthistory.bsky.social) about his book 'Never Had It So Good'. They discuss the Suez crisis; the Macmillan government; Britain's imperial decline and its changing identity in the international stage.
Give it go!

The most surreal and maddening feature of the campaign was that everyone agreed that high prices were the main issue but the guy explicitly, consistently running on a platform of raising everyoneβs prices won voters most concerned about high prices.
We hammered this time and time again and yet.
A letter on Philosophy & Public Affairs letterhead that reads: November 12, 1973 Professor Robert Nozick Department of Philosophy Emerson Hall Harvard University Cambridge, Massachusetts 02138 Dear Professor Nozick, I have been meaning to send you a note ever since you did not telephone the second time last week just to say that I decided after all to drop the offending post-apostrophes from the possessive of Rawls. This is, as I told you, according to the Chicago Manual of Style an honor due only to Moses and Jesus, but with us aesthetic considerations won out. The decision puts us somewhat in a class by ourselves -- I note that in Brian Barry's new book he and Oxford Press write Rawls's -- but I don't mind being different. I trust that you will not. sincerelyοΌ Margot Cutter

I will be teaching an undergrad module on Environmental Ethics, next semester. Any good recent papers I might have missed? Any other recommendations?
Academic writing advice: Eliminate the word βexploreβ from your vocabulary (unless you are literally an explorer). Yes explore, of course explore, explore all you like, but present your paper as a guide to what you found.
And you will not find Lee Ho Fook's here.

1/IMPORTANT thread about Bluesky funding and origins. Many folks know that it was seeded by Jack Dorsey around a libertarian vision of a magical network that wouldnβt need moderation because it would be decentralized and baked into a protocol (somehow).

Claims vs. Actions
βThe behavior of these companies and the people who run them is often hypocritical, greedy, and status-obsessed. But underlying these venalities is something more dangerous, a clear and coherent ideology that is seldom called out for what it is: authoritarian technocracy.β
