I would have never in a million years envisioned this book would make good tv. But someone did! They had the vision.

I don’t wanna hear anything about oh that’s too difficult to adapt. oh that won’t be popular. oh you can’t portray a characters thoughts on screen. nu uh. this is why adaptations need to be made by people who give a fuck about the story.

im kind of mad at how good of an adaptation the tv show is actually. it took the source and even filled in some blanks! so it’s possible ? This whole damn time? All the books bastardized by Hollywood movie/tv adaptations.. I want a formal apology

I don’t think this is specific to this book I find a similar problem with most dual POV romances. I’m not sure if I like this trend! It’s more common than not and I think it’s just really difficult to create a rich inner world (which is kind of necessary for romance) for 2 characters in one book!

ok the initial whiplash is starting to wear off so im making good progress. idk what it is about it tho but Shane’s POV chapters are just so odd?? they give more a narrator vibe than a character POV. I enjoy seeing his character so much more through ilya’s eyes.

attempting to continue.. the sheer amount of sex already in this book is so bonkers 😭 I thought I’ve read my fair share of romance but this is a new level for me especially since I don’t read much romance besides F/F. I will say unlike the show it’s super clear how down bad they both are from day 1

thousand percent recommend the audiobook, the narrator did an excellent job and I think it’s great for people who don’t read armenian to hear the pronunciations of the proverbs in the beginning of each chapter.

Also the criticisms regarding the MC just didn’t click with me, she is just like every armenian girl I’ve ever met lol I think she had a believable character arc and I rooted for her and Erebuni so hard. It’s just a very armenian book lol everything from the style of the humor to the characters

is book is so armenian and i love it!!! the MCs people pleasing tendencies are unfortunately very relatable as a reformed people pleaser 😔 still loving the chemistry of the leading ladies, author is forgiven for all the prior mentions of m*n (for now.. not finished yet)

also loving that this is set in the Bay Area and I can now appreciate the references. The reader is also slaying the audiobook and berutsi accent for the older women in the book but like who else but other armenians can appreciate this level of detail. clearly so much love and care in this novel

the MCs are both bi 😐 but they’re very sweet and have amazing chemistry so I’ll let it slide… begging romance authors to commit to homosexual characters for once tho 🙏🏼

*first. Also I never read the book so I had idea what to expect I just had intense whiplash from the gross and disturbing imagery vs the ‘romantic’?? I kind of wish it just went 100% on one or the other. charli slayed the music tho, the only part of this movie I’d describe as ‘gothic’

I also didn’t realize it was only 4 episodes so I was gearing up for a procedural drama with lots of detective work and such. It was much more a subdued, quiet character study (that part was executed well). The days of long tv shows are well and truly over..
