A story that has them using powers, right? X-Men for Sega Genesis is a classic (including an incredible bit where you had to reset the computer by literally resetting the console). Great music, too. Plus lots of other games like it.

TBQH? I'm not ruling out an actual DDOS (maybe by a disgruntled redditor) and not an "accidental DDOS" caused by natural traffic.
