I have little patience for learned helplessness and absolution-seeking. Our founding document opens with "We The People."
Either we, the collective citizenry, have power or we don't. This ain't Schrodinger's democracy.
We have power. It's incumbent upon us all to seize it.
Many hands=light work!
Even if you are 100% convinced that Democracy is already dead and our votes won't count...
PLEASE VOTE ANYWAY!
I'm begging everyone. There is a critical mass of voter turnout that will be too big to fix.
Please vote, no matter how bleak it seems.
The US govt telling its soldiers that they are βfighting a holy war to bring about armageddonβ is the exact reason why the church and the state are supposed to be SEPARATE.
Great f&king job, πΊπΈ. π

There is a fundamental difference between "burnout recovery self-care" and "But I don't WANNA sacrifice any of my comforts and conveniences to care about the horrific suffering and murder of people I don't know personally. Why should *I* have to so much as pay attention and verbally oppose horror?"

The way people donβt understand that itβs a privilege to not care about politics given everything thatβs going on
"I wear liberal shirts/ hashtags, and therefore am actively tackling racism/fascism, but don't want to do anything more if it in any way inconveniences me." However, performative does expand the permission structure for people to discuss in their everyday convos.
Something > nothing. More > less.
Reminder to keep tabs on local/state corruption as well
ohiocapitaljournal.com/2026/01/28/f...
The political system largely treats people like small-dollar ATMs that vote every 2 years. Everybody gets deluged with emails asking for money. It feeds cynicism and burnout. Rarely do you get a "help me organize our community" email.
If you're going to drop into every post and reply "So what? Who's going to do something about it?", the answer is YOU. YOU are going to do something about it. YOU are the consequences. Stop waiting for someone else to save you.
lotta people replying 'well OF COURSE anti asian racism exists' are you sure. when an asian person tells you 'thats racist' what's the first thing you say. when was the last time you spoke with an asian person about this or proactively tried to help. to what extent do you see this as a real issue.
I also must add: It's odd to have to go to a different county with a different language to be "seen". The Icelandic people are very kind. Takk. π
To all Icelandic visitors, please be mindful and respectful of their country and its natural beauty. Leave places better than you found them.
Iceland is a special place. The couple of times I've visited have subtly & profoundly impacted me.
Take care of our planet. Respect each other. Be joyful.
Trying to internalize this concept for over a year....
If you're new to the job market, know this now. Don't wrap up your whole identity in your job.
Expanding this concept: don't wrap your whole identity in one thing outside of your control.

"When I say βwork wonβt love us backβ I don't mean βdonβt work hardβ or βdonβt strive for excellenceβ or βlaziness is good, actuallyβ or any other ways people interpret this...
I mean simply: Be intentional & thoughtful about how much you give to your job." amandalitman.substack.com/p/work-wont-...
Flexible/remote-first work is effective (and enables diverse teams) if leadership does the work to make it so β build strong team cultures, establish containers for mentorship, and be thoughtful about using IRL team wisely.
Not doing that is a choice.
The level of corruption.
"So they went looking for a way to force customers to bail them out.
FirstEnergy started courting Householder at the World Series in Cleveland that October, and by flying him on the corporate jet to Donald Trumpβs first inauguration the following January."
Most of the bailout money was intended to prop up money-losing nuclear plants owned by FirstEnergy. It was repealed after the FBI made its first arrests. But it wasnβt until five years later that the Republican-led legislature repealed a coal bailout benefitting a group of Ohio utilities that was part of the same 2019 legislation. By that time, ratepayers had already been forced to pay more than $500 million that wonβt be refunded. Thatβs all in addition to $1.5 billion that electric utilities have been allowed to collect since 2009 in charges that the Ohio Supreme Court later deemed to be illegal. But because the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio greenlit the charges without creating a refund mechanism, customers wonβt get that back either.

"Zero interest in real consequences": true
"Every field": at a minimum, every field with any sort of power. Also true.
Good framing for conversations
Acton: Iβm running against a guy, Vivek Ramaswamy, who has said that people are struggling in Ohio because theyβre lazy, theyβre mediocre, theyβre not working hard enough. And I can absolutely tell you that is not the Ohioans I know or see. I think heβs completely out of touch.

"Black people are tired. Not metaphorically tiredβactually tired. The kind of tired that turns every group chat into a mix of gallows humor and emotional triage."
I write about white ignorance and how exhausting it is to hear white ppl insist "this isn't who we are, when it's ALWAYS who we've been.
