@casioeducationuk.bsky.social I have a student who’s new CG-100 has gone through two sets of batteries since September. Is there a potential issue with their calculator? They’re not using it that much to warrant being on their third set already?
Chelsea won though, bet you’re quaking in your boots! 😂
I agree, and just to be clear, we set a weekly mandatory task. But then say on top of that students should be doing independent study. (We say about 4.5 hours a week).
But l too worry that students aren’t doing this, and want to try and capture this.
#ALevelMaths teachers, do you track independent work of students, besides any specific tasks that you set for them? And if so, how do you monitor it?
Some have graphical, but not all, but yes, our students do have their own. I think I’ve come up with a solution, we’ll see by the end of the year if it was successful! 😂 😂
Wording of the question had been different.
Relieved on a personal level as I think most of my students will have done calculator method and achieved full marks.
But still not great as some candidates out there may have half-remembered the standardised method and not achieved full marks, when they could’ve achieved full marks if the word…
Took me a while to work out T’Wolves was Timberwolves, and you weren’t just being all Yorkshire about “The Wolves”
I didn’t realise until recently, and this my be common knowledge to everyone else! But you can check a calculators authenticity by scanning its QR code. Both versions of the 991 have this!
It just gets better and better the longer you look at it for!
Reaching out to the #AlevelMaths hive-mind.
Has anyone come up with a effective strategy of being able to identify which calculator belongs to which student?
The f(x) buttons look quite dissimilar too! Not come across any fake cw’s myself yet, but will keep my eye out!!
Amazing, that’s what we do currently, it means we can use last years AS papers as a “end of year 1 assessment”.
May I ask if you’re part of a large trust or a sixth form on your own?
Thank you for your response. May I ask if you’re part of a large trust or a sixth form on your own?

A question for teachers of #ALevelMaths, what order do you teach the topics?
Do you build traditional year 2 content into year 1, or do you generally teach the AS content in year 1 and then the A2 content in year 2?
Petition to have names next year like Angry Aardvarks, Benign Badgers etc
Mmmthousands doesn’t quite have the same ring to it!

I’m so glad you’ve made this post. It’s my first year teaching #CoreMaths and made the decision for all students to have the classwizz and not go over z-values too much!
I was thinking about teaching it solely with the statistical tables next year, and this question has made my mind up!
How’s the lay of land of students coming out of the #CoreMaths paper 1?
We do AQA and they seem relatively happy, I’ve not seen the paper myself
We’ve been practicing and have the same feeling, fingers crossed it pays off 🤞
