For our #flowcytometry peeps, would you like to have a single fix/perm protocol that is optimised for everything? One that preserves fluorophores while allowing simultaneous TF and cytokine staining? How about 100-fold cheaper?
You got it:

NEW: In June, ProPublica reported that the FDA has given more than 20 foreign factories a special pass to send drugs to the U.S. even though they were made at plants the agency had banned.
Today, we’re publishing a list of those exempted drugs.

Editorial rejection from journal 2 today. This one stung a little, but that’s the game. I have to remember that my PhD paper was passed up by 4-5 journals before getting reviewed! I just gotta keep trying.

Editorial rejection from journal A… but suggested transfer to good journal option B! Now we wait (again). Happy 4th of July weekend!

Submitted a paper today! It’s out of our hands at this point and up to the editors/reviewers. But I’m proud of the work that went into it, no matter the outcome! I just have to hope others see the science as worthwhile and interesting. Thankful for all the support from co-authors and colleagues.

Just put the final touches on my NIA K22 application. It’s ready to submit; I just have to hope science is still being funded come 2026. Getting the K22 could really help in these uncertain times! I’m optimistic and eager to start my independent research program.

‘I really wanted something to happen.’ The students behind the Stand Up for Science protests
New group hopes to turn out researchers for 7 March demonstrations against Trump administration policies
Scientists are now organizing events, called Stand Up for Science, on 7 March in Washington, D.C., and state capitals.
So far, they have attracted more than 100 volunteers from some 30 states who are hoping to rally support for research as a public good. scim.ag/4328LAD

I’m glad there’s another effort to show support for science. I remember the March for Science a few years back during my PhD.

For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring.

Bought an external hard drive to help with data management for my MacBook Pro at home and backup important files. My mind was blown that I got a 2 TB SSD and this is the size! With my thunderbolt 3 ports it gets nearly 1GB/second transfer speeds. Backed up my 175GB sequencing data in 4 minutes. 🤯

Age is important. Most people say 12 weeks old is the minimum age for kittens to have had enough socializing with other cats and the mother. Some even suggest 16 weeks. They still need extra social attention until about 6-9 months but by then can be relatively independent. Cats are amazing!

I’m being distracted from working on my lab meeting presentation for tomorrow by our oldest kitty Mable. She yawned but I’ll just imagine she’s roaring ferociously like her feline cousins. Time to get back to work…

First post here on the blue app. Already my feed is filled with science, beautiful photography, adorable animals, and none of the BS from the other app. Feels like a good mix of old school bird app and insta. Will try to keep this place as updated as the other!
