The point is more that decisions based on the whims of one person are more likely to be shit, not really sure the point you think I was making and that you are highlighting

Prewar US intel found intervention in Iran wasn’t likely to change leadership A February intelligence assessment determined that American military intervention was not likely to lead to regime change in the Islamic Republic.

Show that having supreme leaders, heightens the chances of making stupid decisions.

If deciding to chose the counsel of extreme doctrine, make sure it has proven effective, especially if departments of Intelligence say certain outcomes are highly unlikely

Many Labour leaders would have done the same as Starmer

Milliband
Corbyn
Wilson

The odd one out is Blair, who seems to have disproportionate clout with the Starmer cabinet. Thankfully he did not get a say!

Reform says it will save Β£13bn from the Energy Department

Up to you, I understand. The point I was making is more about the energy.
In a cottage that you wish to keep like that, then you waste lots of energy

All sorts of way to insulate and ventilate

Ecuador’s new ecological corridor connects Andes and Amazon ecosystems Ecuador has announced the creation of a new biological corridor designed to connect the eastern ranges of the Andes with the Amazon Rainforest, part of a larger initiative to strengthen ecological…

A new 2,159-sq-km corridor in Ecuador now links high-elevation Andes ecosystems with the lowland Amazon. This "altitudinal connectivity" between Llanganates National Park and YasunΓ Reserve is vital for species migrating in response to climate change and habitat loss.

I really want to get one for a canal boat in UK....but most of the off grid variety (low voltage syst) only seem to be available in US, both for heating and cooling (steel boats get very hot!!) ...hopefully soon they will become a bit more available!

would point out air to air heat pumps can act as cooling systems, so then solar would work well with them.

Energy is energy. Any energy system will work more efficiently with insulation.
The less you insulate the more energy you use, whatever the heating system

Natural Gas and Biogenic CH4 Emissions from an Urban Center, Sakai, Japan, Based on Simultaneous Measurements of CH4 and C2H6 fluxes Based on the Eddy Covariance Method Urban areas are increasingly recognized as significant sources of methane (CH4) emissions, with recent studies highlighting unexpectedly high emissions from fossil fuel-related sources. Here, we conducted quasi-continuous, one-year eddy covariance measurements of CH4 and ethane (C2H6) fluxes in Sakai, a major metropolitan area in Japan. By leveraging the coemission of CH4 and C2H6, we separated and quantified contributions from natural gas leakage and biogenic sources. Results show that 65–78% of the total annual CH4 flux (10.7 g CH4 m–2 yr–1) originated from natural gas, with emissions elevated during daytime and weekdays, indicating strong links to anthropogenic activity. Natural gas-related CH4 fluxes remained high year-round and were further amplified in summer and winter, likely reflecting seasonal gas demand. Footprint analysis identified hotspots near steel and chemical industries, suggesting important point sources. Although biogenic CH4 contributed less overall, fluxes increased in warmer months. Mobile surveys revealed multiple localized sources within the flux footprint, enabling identification of specific facilities. These findings indicate that much of the natural gas-related CH4 emissions are not captured in local inventories, underscoring the need for improved quantification and mitigation. Eddy covariance and mobile monitoring are effective tools to support data-driven urban methane policies.

More information in terms of transitioning to heat pumps vs waiting.

New research shows that smaller sources of methane leakage are vastly underestimated.

Ultimately, the study highlights hidden sources of methane that could be fixed with technology and policy. πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘

Quick addendum on this: the one part of the left that truly understood power was ... unions. Union organizers were never under the illusion that they could sweet-talk concessions from bosses with the right framing. They dealt in power.

That's why the right killed them.

Trump and the Tories would have the UK wade into another Middle East war. Kudos to Starmer: he has not done that | Matt Western The prime minister has approached a complex geopolitical conflict with a level head – and most importantly, the support of the public, says Labour MP Matt Western

So many other areas where he is getting it wrong and has enabled some to realise that international law can be ignored!
