There's a bunch of Chevening Scholars in my Masters classes and they massively enrich it. Impressive people and also so obviously wedded to going back and improving their own countries.

Heartbreaking
Iβve said it before, but People magazine should get a Pulitzer for its coverage of this administration.
Today I asked ministers to deny* that the number of jury acquittals in protest cases was a factor in the Governmentβs dangerous attack on jury trials.
*They did not do this
Scoop: DHS ousted multiple privacy officers at CBP after they questioned orders to purposely mislabel records about government surveillance to prevent their release under FOIA.
100 Iranians living in the UK, including Nazanin Zaghari-Ratcliffe, have urged Starmer not to get drawn further into the Iran conflict.
"It will entrench the authoritarians and give life to the fiction that has sustained them internally for decades: that they are fighting western imperialism."
The Labour front bench should curl up and die of shame as they listen to this. They have abandoned every shred of true concern for social justice, in favour of cheap authoritarian stunts.
It is outrageous that Nashville Notacias reporter Estefany Rodriguez was detained and taken out of state because of ICE reporting.
We are proud to join 40 other press freedom, civic and media orgs to call for her immediate release.

One day the NYT's editors will read these stories again and be ashamed of themselves. Mamdani called the attack "heinous," "criminal," "reprehensible," "terrorism," and "the antithesis of who we are." The insinuation that he's conflicted about this is disgraceful. www.nytimes.com/2026/03/09/n...

Qatar Minster of education Lolwah bint Rashid Al Khater to the US: ββ¦we just need you to leave us alone. To stop igniting wars so that weaponsβ companies can make more money. We need you to Stop Bombing Schools, to stop trafficking and raping little kids.β
Our government keeps telling us America can't afford universal health care or expanding Medicare for ALL. There's a reason for that.π½
The humanitarian costs of this war are in no way almost over. They are just beginning. The market may have temporarily recovered but I remain in despair.
They have no problem spending a billion dollars a day on war, but fight for every penny when it comes to caring for Veterans.
It is therefore disingenuous for the government to claim that this particular measure is about helping victims. Itβs a short-termist cost-cutting measure, which will further entrench discrimination and inequality. [2/2]

No principles, no morality, no information, no expertise, just endlessly appeasing Trump, Putin, Netanyahu and assorted billionaires and foreign oligarchs or chasing the next headline, until suddenly colliding with reality. Bang, oof.

Curse of Private Equity
US evidence shows:
When private equity incentives collide with clinical care, patientsβespecially those who are sicker, poorer, or harder to treatβare more likely to be killed or harmed.
Yet UK handing more of the NHS to PE, enabling it to make profits.
Swedish private equity group takes 42% stake in Yorkshire Water.
Thames Water, Northumbrian Water, Southern Water, South West Water and Wessex Water gutted by PE.
All have criminal convictions, dump sewage in rivers, profiteer. 90% of England's water is foreign owned.
Expect more looting.

It is demonstrably untrue that juries cause undue delay. As specialist commentators have said the delay is caused by lack of sitting days, privatisation of prison, prison transport and general under funding of the CJS. Transferring delay to lower Court is foolish & pointless. 2/
I hope @UKLabour MPβs will defend the jury system today. The proposal is a slippery slope on the way to destroy the peoples right to take part in their own judicial system. It is an undemocratic proposal. Juries predate universal suffrage. They have resisted unjust prosecutions1/
