If you are even remotely interested in populism, don't miss out the book launch of @emmyeklundh.bsky.social's excellent new book: Europe's populist condition

It's a brilliant addition to the literature which really unsettles many of the preconceptions about the concept and its potential

🎉 New publication 😍 The 4th wave of the #farright is marked by #mainstreaming & #normalisation - but how can we distinguish between them? In our new article, @gefjonoff.bsky.social and I map the existing literature, introduce a conceptual framework & outline research avenues. doi.org/10.1017/S147...

Red Lines: The death of Quentin Deranque, the demonisation of the French left, and far-right mainstreaming (Fraser McQueen) - Reactionary Politics Research Network This article by Fraser McQueen discusses the demonisation of the left in the aftermath of Quentin Deranque's death

I wrote for Red Lines @reacpolrn.bsky.social about the killing of French neo-fascist Quentin Deranque & the demonisation of the left/mainstreaming of far-right politics. Grateful to all three editors, and to @aurelmondon.com for the invitation! Link below:

Caveat here that I'm not a political scientist & haven't studied people's reasons for voting Green. That said, I can't get over the reductionism of equating Green support with traditional conservationist views & a generalised love of nature.

The students claiming uni Covid compensation 'for the principle' Dozens of universities have received legal letters over what students say they missed out on during Covid.

This is causing despair in academe. (1) We were forced to close during Covid. We had no choice! (2) We're not service providers like a restaurant, we are institutions of state. (3) We did everything we could. (4) This will cripple current students' education.

Spain's constitution promises democracy at work. Last year, @yolandadiaz.bsky.social convened an expert group to study how to make good on that promise.

Lead by @isabelleferreras.bsky.social, we have delivered what is, we think, the highest-level 400-page report on economic democracy out there. 1/2

The UN climate talks have become too big for their own good Cop30 will have 50,000 delegates. But bigger Cops are not better Cops.

Huge COPs are an equity issue.

We don't hear marginalised voices above the din of who can afford the pavilions, flights, comms teams, or hosting.

I draw on decolonial theory, psychoanalysis and feminism to make this argument, and particularly look at how even left-wing populisms struggle to break free from the idea that Europe is superior to other continents.

The book argues that we hang on to the 'populist' as an external threat because we do not want to face the faults and failings of liberal democracy in Europe. The populist is therefore a fantasy, an idea of a malevolent power which destroys our benevolent and equal Europe.

I’m really sorry to say that I don’t think these people are scared, but that they quietly agree with what Trump is doing, and see opportunities for themselves going forward. There is no other explanation.

Idk, I’m increasingly uncomfortable with this narrative that Reform represent some kind of anti-politics when their narrative has been absolutely dominant for more than 10 years and seems to be seamlessly adapted by all mainstream actors.
