As a graduate of Texas A&M, I have been horrified by these policies and the intrusion of politics into what a professional and subject matter expert can teach in class.

A common complaint among job seekers is "jobs require experience, but I can't get experience if I can't get a job!" Conservation Careers has an online take-at-your-own-pace short course that offers expert guidance in solving this dilemma. www.conservation-careers.com/experience/

A schematic image showing Recent changes in reef zonation of western Atlantic coral reefs, brought about by lack of recruitment of elkhorn, staghorn, and massive boulder corals. Without these key reef builders, the reefs have already measurably eroded. Image credit: Rashpal Dhilon. Adapted from ref. 6, which is licensed under CC BY 4.0. The panel on the left labeled Late Pleistocene to ~1978 shows a vibrant ecosystem, the middle panel (the 1980s) is depleted but still many corals remain (though some key species are lost). The panel on the right (2020s) is like a moonscape with a few hardy species left.

Very effective illustration of what has happened to Florida's coral reefs in response to anthropogenic climate and environment change. The loss of this important ecosystem is all but complete - attempts to rescue it discussed here: www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/... πŸͺΈπŸ§ͺ🌊

4 to 5 inches of pretty much solid sleet here in central North Louisiana. Glad we didn’t get as much freezing rain which would have made it awful. Currently wishing the road conditions were better so we could effectively help our eastern towns as 20 minutes down the road they weren’t as lucky…..

Happy to report my ecology class activity on zoonotic disease and the recent events of bird flu transmission in cattle has firmly changed the mind of at least one student to not drink raw milk anymore……

Finally get a floating plant salinity stress test study going with my undergrads. Kiddie pools all set up outside with different salinity treatments. And now we are forecasted to potentially get over 4 inches of rain πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ

And then we got back to the dock and my students had boat driving lessons with the LUMCON captains. Learning to drive boats is an important skill.

A day in the marsh collecting periwinkle snails. My students were blessed by the marsh gods (I.e sunk in the mud) many times.

I got to jump in to the bay to remove a derelict crab trap that wrapped around our boat prop. Thank the marsh gods I left wire snips in my dry bag from our last trip!

Dude have you been in my office spying on me and the advice I tell my students….cuz this is pretty much verbatim what I tell them. (At a state school 6 hours from the coast)

One of my students told me this week that every time she hears all this autism, vaccine, and Tylenol stuff in the news, she hears my voice in her head saying β€œcorrelation is not causation” and β€œ shark attacks are correlated with ice cream sales”

Someone listened and learned. It is possible!

This scandalous share made me laugh out load. And it makes me happy to know the scourge of defunct thermostats is not limited to my campus.

Which is why we need the engagement of the arts, humanities, and social sciences.
We cannot β€œscience only” our way out of these problems.
