I love the (fake) story that it was Cardinal Richelieu’s chef.
Richelieu: Ah, another fine day of schemes and assassination! Now a quick dinner and — what’s this? Mere bread and ham? Chef! Explain yourself!
Chef [brandishing a pot of white goop]: Your eminence, I’m about to flip your entire lid.

This is great because her reaction is so over the top that the punchline is less “that’s a comical way to twist my words,” and more “hang on — you’re STRAIGHT???”

Someone just posted about how they don't care if their students use AI as long as the text conveys the ideas the students meant to convey. The thing is, you don't know exactly what you think until you write it. And if some prefab thing pops up, you're liable to decide that was what you thought.

Edited Futurama caption with Fry saying "You know the worst part about being a slave? The uniquely human ability to be terrorized by threats of future punishment." Really there should be one more panel with Leela saying "No doubt there are other facts I could have adduced." (You make your low-effort meme out of the image you have in front of you.)
Although, come to think of it... why did anyone make a version of this image without Leela's line? Fry's whole line is just the setup of the joke! She says the thing that makes it funny! Oooohh... If anyone needs me, I'll be in the angry dome.

At home, staring at my own collection (or worse, Netflix), there’s no friction… and no endpoint. I can go get a snack, check social media, and go right back to browsing. Or I can just go to bed, and browse again tomorrow. I’ll find the perfect title eventually. I’m bound to! Just a few minutes more.

But I already took the time to go down there. I already set aside the money to make one (1) rental. And I don’t get to go home — don’t get to sit down! — until I make up my mind. So eventually I’m going to settle. (And the whole time, I know I’m going to settle.) I’m only looking for good-enough.

I’ve thought about this a lot (more with dvds, but it’s a similar concept), and I think that we *did* have decision paralysis back then — but the friction of the experience forced us to break out of it. So like, I would spend a full hour going up and down the aisles at Blockbuster, no problem…

Uhhhh all this time I’d just assumed that Highlander was like a men in kilts fighting the English kind of a movie and I have only just learned right now that it is very much Not That At All 😹

Have said this before in other forms, but will reiterate it here: if you're doing long-form writing of any sort, reading the words aloud into a microphone is a completely unparalleled cheat code. It's free, easy, and so effective it feels like it shouldn't be allowed. I do it in a few stages...

This century-old film has a timeless message, which is that sure, maybe AI is too big to fail *right now* — but if you smack it with a hammer, it will get smaller.

I think often of the Rossettis’s beloved pet wombat, who once seized upon the distraction provided by Algernon Swinburne reciting a poem by Walt Whitman during a dinner party to eat the entire box of cigars meant to smoke during dessert
