My natural history book of the year is β€˜Urban Plants’ by @trevorthebotanist.bsky.social
Informative, entertaining and inspiring - after reading it you will never walk down a street, pass by a wall or look at a grass verge in the same way again. Highly recommended @bsbibotany.bsky.social

Quick thread on the BBC and the political and societal significance of recent developments:

One of the main reasons the UK has historically been so much less polarised than the US, is that Britain has a shared source of information, consumed and trusted by most people regardless of their politics.

Centuries of overgrazing & muirburn for grouse moors mean Highland Scotland looks treeless & desolate. But it doesn't have to be this way. New film Scotland's Missing Forests went online y'day. Chuffed to see almost 10k views. www.youtube.com/watch?v=MuTV... @chrisgpackham.bsky.social

This is super interesting but sadly behind paywall - can someone share? I thought I was perimenopausal, turns out I was very much hypothyroid. Correct medication made a huge difference.

Currently very cross with Elmore Leonard for killing off the character I expected to ride into the sunset with their newfound love. And I've got another of his books waiting to be read! I won't open it for at least 2 days. That will teach him. (I won't last that long. I love his writing very much.)

Housing🀝Nature

To deliver much-needed housing while ensuring that our natural environment is protected and enhanced, the Government must work closely with ecologists, planners, landscape architects and other environmental experts.

In Hungarian, if you bring home your packed lunch, you would say it was "seen by a bird", and I like that phrasing very much. We all need more magical forest thinking.

In the 90s you usually found a taxi / motorbike taxi driver who would take around the sites for a few days according to the schedule you planned. They would congregate outside your hotel and you would choose a guy and agree on the fees

It's worth planning what order to visit the temples in, and leave Angkor Wat itself for last. My favourite was the Bayon
