Another plug for the most recent HVOB single - it's a gorgeous song, and the video is made up clips from the documentary that HVOB have scored, about life in Beirut following the 2020 explosion. The combination is pretty stunning, I think:
Sometimes I'll get assigned several at once, each up to 12k - often there's no way I could get through all of them in two weeks. Maybe all this is a sign that someone else should be doing it, but I don't think there would be a rush to volunteer.
I don't really get this - I do all of my journal editing on top of my job, I don't get any reduction or recognition for it at all. There are quite often many other things which are much more time-sensitive that I'm meant to do than read the latest batch of papers I need to handle.
I've decided I need a Max Cooper thread. He was a progressive house/techno producer with a phd in maths, who turned to creating these incredibly intricate piece of electronic music, usually accompanied by stunning work by visual artists. This is absolutely stunning, both musically and visually:

I've been talking about reviving my drilosopher quiz at the end of the semester. It worked very well the first time around, but both myself and most of the students were drunk, and this would be a sober re-run for all involved.
Returning to Norway in the early 1890s after training in the great European art capitals of Munich and Paris, Harriet Backer opened a mixed school of painting, which became one of the most important in the country before the creation of the Academy of Fine Arts.
Glasgow was on fire. It wasn't good.
