Who should pay? Wildfire costs, the transmission grid, and California's electricity bills. New blogpost from the brilliant Meredith Fowlie:

who among us
This builds on earlier work that focused on just MISO/SPP; our PNAS paper goes (nearly) national,
and we add analysis of incentives for new generation investment.
Really enjoyed working with the fabulous Dasom and Owen on this one,
and big thanks to @rff.org for supporting the work.
Paper out today in PNAS!
Transmission build-out could bring electricity generation cost reductions.
But market integration saves costs *because* it pushes out high-cost suppliers, so:
generators in some regions have incentives to block or delay transmission.

In case you thought that the ICE siege in Minnesota is over, here is one of our state senators giving an update π
It's really this simple. RIP.

My friend has a cat named Tom and a dog Daisy and the thing about them is they are careless creatures, they smash up things and let other people clean up the mess
I donβt know, but I would read that paper! I wonder what one could use to infer it

correction, bush stole my look [laudatory]
A screenshot of the YouTube video "This Too Shall Pass" by Ok Go. Half a dozen people dressed in grass are getting up from the ground while playing musical instruments. In front of them, a man in a purple band uniform plays a drum and sings.
Bitch stole my look [laudatory]
Young enough that my kids bring home nasty germs and breathe them directly into my face (No! Cough Pocket!),
Old enough that when I inevitably catch their sniffles, there's a good chance sneezing will throw out my back
Partially resolved, ideas always welcome :)
Ope, wait, that's not fair to Mr Johnson's rigorous but still confidence-building middle school physics. Tied for favorite science teacher.
Larry Weber! My favorite science teacher. He took us on the most amazing weekly walks. I learned lots of critters and plants and trees and fungi, and got better at noticing the world around me.

ex-post not surprising, but I nonetheless didn't anticipate an entire agency's youtube archive disappearing.
Okay folks, looking to crowdsource some ideas. Am putting together short (90min - 2hr) workshop on "recovering information from the past on the Web". Basically internet archeology for beginners. Plan is to hit some big, if basic, examples, "10k people a day" hits.
My ideas in reply. Yours welcome.

Wow! The stuff I need for Monday isn't here, but other stuff is - both things I use later in the semester, and I things I didn't know about but that look really useful. Thank you! I will be downloading stuff I need going forward...

The EPA channel on YouTube now has only videos from the past 11 months.
The videos I had assigned to my class have been taken down; the links are broken.
Currently hunting down archived ones for my teaching. This is great. Makes my day.

Unless we see real change in how ICE/CBP operates, it is too soon to declare one more phantom Trump pivot
These pictures mean so much. Look at which stoles they've chosen, what those mean (that giraffe!). Look at the pads they brought so they could kneel in the cold. The looks on their faces, their arms linked. I'm in awe.
A few other quick shots from the protest:
a map of the US, from the national weather service, showing lots of counties with cold weather or winter storm advisories, watches, and warnings.
i'm not sure who is in charge of the weather, but i think she wants us to miss school and work tomorrow, in solidarity with Minnesota?
