Much appreciated for your thought on this. So much dissonance on how to move forward. In the secondary ed world, righting the ship of grading is a big undertaking. Years of tradition combined with student perception around college admissions makes this task much harder. #academicsky

Opinion | No, You Don’t Get an A for Effort
High marks reward excellence, not grit.
I’m seeing a growing number of students complain: “My grade doesn’t reflect the effort I put into the course.”
Public service announcement: An A is for excellence, not for effort.
The true measure of learning is not the time and energy you put in. It’s the knowledge and skills you take out.

Fair. Guskey’s research also discusses clarity of expectations, which Grant addresses. TG’s research also points out, which I think you are alluding to, that teachers are including noncognitive factors in the grade, which give students a somewhat false sense of what they are actually learning.

#bluesky Here we go! Also, apparently I had the common sense months ago to start an account and forgot about it, so I have my namesake handle for the first time!
