Anyone want some Thought Leadership from your friendly neighborhood robotics nerd? (And also some industry luminaries) www.ces.tech/videos/trans...
This is an example of the nuance we MUST discuss openly with systems like this. Yes, Waymos are safer than humans in some situations. But their limitations will introduce new hazards in situations humans manage well. Until we reckon with that, stuff like this wonβt let safety benefits be realized.
You might need more popcorn than that ...
Thx for the RoboBusiness mention. You should check out that show out some time, as well as our Boston-based Robotics Summit.
These are developer conferences through & through.
I'd change the RoboBusiness name, but not my call there.
Actuate is also great!
OmniRetarget from Amazon
We hold out until at least Nov. 1. Non-negotiable. π₯Ά
What do you think she's wrong about: the deployment part, AI part, or both? Just curious.
BTW, love Digit and am a big believer in humanoids.

Before GPS, my dad would drive to "local places" the day before the actual event to make ensure he knew exactly how to get there. He didnβt want to risk getting lost, so he'd scout the route ahead of time like a personal recon mission.
what about FANUC? Fan-ick ... Fah-nook ...
en-vidia for the win. you're correct (i think)
Given the drop in Tech stocks today triggered by a report of an engineering innovation (as distinct from the introduction of DL or generative models) by an unknown company, we now know for sure that the AI valuations in stocks and VC are currently driven by hype rather than sound investing practice.
Love Hauser, but he averaged 5 ppg in playoffs last year; Pritchard just over 6. They're role players. Super team refers to star players. Most of their top-talent isn't homegrown.
Huge Celtics fan here, they're a super team. Holiday, Horford, Porzingis, White are not home grown players. C'mon now. π€¨
Every Jan 1 I post a scorecard on predictions I made, with dates, on Jan 1, 2018 on cars (self-driving), robots, AI, & ML, and on human spaceflight. Besides telling which turned out right and which wrong in the last year I also talk a lot of smack about these topics. rodneybrooks.com/predictions-...
I've taken 4-5 Waymo rides in SF in the last few years and am a believer in the tech. But one major caveat is that Waymo's performance is still limited to mostly warm, dry, sunny climates.
Humans drive in all sorts of weather - rain, snow, etc.
Skews Waymo's #s a bit, no?
I had missed this. Back on Sept 27 a Waymo got stuck doing a U turn and block VP Harris' motorcade in SF. A police officer eventually got in and drove it away. Does anyone know how he got in and whether Waymo remote support was in the loop to help? sfstandard.com/2024/09/28/w...
If you don't know - I work for Amazon Robotics, and we are hiring! We have open positions in our two greater Boston offices, Seattle, and the occasional Toronto/EU thing. (If we know each other and you want a referral, hmu BEFORE you apply) A few I'd currently happily recommend to people:
Eric Ries (author of The Lean Startup) has me on his show, just up today. www.ericriesshow.com/rodney-brook...
I'd like to introduce what I've been working at @hellorobot.bsky.social: Stretch AI, a set of open-source tools for language-guided autonomy, exploration, navigation, and learning from demonstration.
Check it out: github.com/hello-robot/...
