Thrilled to announce my portfolio ‘Woodlands Throughout the Year’ has won the British Seasons category of the 2026 British Wildlife Photography Awards. My bluebells image is highly commended in Wild Woods too.

Over 13,000 photographs were entered, so to be awarded is something I’m really proud of.

The Asian Fairy-bluebird (Irena paella) is listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, but with a decreasing population trend. Its main threat is trade use. This species is extant to South and South-east Asia and its habitat includes tropical lowland and montane forest, where lowland forest is of greater importance. They consume mainly fruits but will also consume invertebrate prey. Their bill is powerful to break into tough and large fruits.

A small remaining patch of snowdrops in flower.

Last small swathe of snowdrops with early primroses in the foreground.

Snowdrops and daffodils both in flower at the same time in the garden. Not a common sight. Taken on 24.02.2026. It shows how fast Sun and mild weather makes the snowdrop flowers go over.

As it is the last day of February (28th) I decided to look in a small #snowdrop reserve in #DartmoorNationalPark. Most had gone over but there were a few patches left here and there. It is an early #Spring. #FairMaidsOfFebruary The 3rd photo was taken in the garden just four days ago. #flowers
