Think of all the news stories we're missing -- the stories we could be having instead of "ai chose my wine," "ai can sometimes form a coherent sentence!" "I let ai run my life for a week." Everything about it makes me filled with rage.

'Most intriguing of all were Mary’s salons held just for women, where topics of discussion ranged from science and literature to solving social ills of the day.' Fascinating overview of the life & work of scientist Mary Somerville by @oliviacampbell.bsky.social.

Mary also held salons just for women because she recognized and detested inequity. She also happened to be Ada Lovelace's math tutor.

The Original Scientist Mary Somerville reigns supreme over Regency London’s science scene.

Mary Somerville was a brilliant scientist. The designation was, in fact, created for her. She and her husband held science salons, counting among their friends the leading thinkers of the day. oliviacampbell.substack.com/p/the-origin...

This is the book I'm currently reading (listening to) and it's quite good.

I read many books about WW2 but never heard about this story until now (another "hidden figure").

It’s not just Medicaid funding they’re withholding to MN. It’s food assistance, child care assistance, social services, job training, safety testing, public health, disaster relief. SNAP. Free lunch for kids in school.

They hate us for loving our neighbors, and are collectively punishing us for it.

Reducing human value to what we can be trained to do is straight up technofascism. Every fascism has its suhumans. To technofascists, humans are the subhumans.
