Congratulations to Dr. Katerina Kiriakopulos and all co-workers! Tremendous efforts finalize a great story about a lncRNA driving a really important biological process.

CISTRβs DNA and RNA have function. NuRD complex components bind CISTRβs locus, whilst transcription factor FOSL2 associates with CISTRβs RNA. In CISTRβs absence, FOSL2 is misguided which leads to differential regulation of cell morphogenesis genes and aberrant cell size.
CISTR-ACT maintains cell size across cell types in human and mice by regulating cell morphogenesis genes in trans via guidance of the transcription factor FOSL2.
CISTR-ACT was the 1st lncRNA involved in inter-chromosomal contacts and in Mendelian disease (brachydactyly). We now revealed CISTR-ACTβs molecular mechanism: tinyurl.com/CISTR-ACT, @sickkidsto.bsky.social, @uoftpress.bsky.social, @natcomms.nature.com, @natureportfolio.nature.com
π’ Paper Alert: tinyurl.com/yzy2d864. We characterized tRNA-overlapping lncRNA loci = tROLs! tROL perturbations silence
codon-biased genes in inter-chromosomal proximity. tROLs bridge the non-coding
and coding genomes. @sickkidsto.bsky.social @uoftpress.bsky.social
Register now and see you soon in Mexico for a great conference and speaker line up!
Finally, the Maass lab is on #Bluesky and seeks science skeets and news! More on lncRNAs and trans-chromosomal contacts (kissing chromosomes / non-homologous chromosomal contacts [NHCCs] soon. Refreshing some older news: www.nature.com/articles/s41...
